:Bloodless: A Vampire Romance

.................................................................................................................

I watched my breath in the freezing air and shivered in my jacket. I wanted the winter to end so desperately, but it had just started. I moaned at the cold and the fresh snow running through my boots and jeans. The wind slashed my face, hurting my sensitive ears, even when I wore a cozy hat and a pair of fuzzy earmuffs.

I stomped, crossing my arms in frustration, and wondered why anyone wanted to live anywhere like this. The heat and sunny skies of Florida had passed my mind thousands of times within the last few days, the coldest days I had endured. I wanted to sweat in triple-digit temperatures and wear shorts and short sleeves. I couldn't do any of that here.

"Chloe!" a voice yelled from behind me.

I looked back at my best friend slipping and sliding in the snow with her designer boots and snow gear, "Hey, Natalie," I stopped so she could catch up with me.

"Chloe! Guess what?" She bolted over to me, screaming erratically.

I threw my hands up, "What's with you, Nat?"

Like anything she told me would be about something exciting happening- somewhere else. Besides here, I mean, of course. Welcome to Small Town USA, population: me, Chloe, and a few others.

She breathed heavily, "Oh, my goodness! Chloe, I heard that there's a new kid!"

"So?" We began walking again. I rubbed my boots through the snow, making a deep path for someone else.

"Yeah, well, he's British," She jumped with excitement, exaggerating 'British' by sounding it out like a preschooler.

I shrugged, "Yeah... So?" My face went numb with the temperature lurking in the teens.

She slumped, "Chloe, you don't see the awesomeness in this, do you?"

"What are you talking about?"

She sighed deeply like a drama queen, "He'll talk all fancy like."

"Where is me crumpet and me afternoon tea?" I mocked in an accent, "Shall we go visit the Queen?"

"Well, he could be like a vampire or something!"

I questioned her attention span. It didn't last long.

I squinted my eyes and raised my eyebrow, "Uh, Natalie, you're too obsessed with vampires. Plus, they don't even exist. It's so stupid."

She gasped, "Chloe! He might bite you!"

"Give me a break, Natalie," I walked faster when the school came into view, "Vampires are ridiculous, and you've fallen for the fad. They won't be so popular in a few years."

We entered the school's gates and headed to the building, the brick school towering over us and the few students that stood outside. I inhaled the icy air and water poured out of my eyes because of the cold. Wiping them quickly, I burst through the huge doors and into the warm school. The heat blew up into my face, and my blood flushed into my cheeks.

"Well, see ya later, Vampire hater," Natalie waved to me as she went to her class.

I ripped off my hat, unbuttoned my pea coat, and let down my hair from the pony tail. It whipped around my face, filled with static, and I rubbed my hand through it only making it worse. I looked horrible right then, and I rushed to the bathroom where I had plenty of time to make myself a little more appealing.
