Recap:
His face got tight and pale when I uttered 'vampire', and I cocked my head. My mouth went dry, and my eyes widened even more than before. Had Natalie been right about Lance before even meeting him? It couldn't be true; vampires didn't exist. Even if they did, I thought vampires lived in Washington. Fear overcame my entire body, and I had to ask.
"Lance, are you...," I trailed off into a whisper, "a vampire?"
"What?" He sounded baffled, "Why would think that?"
I breathed heavily, "But, you... You reacted to the word." I didn't want to say it again.
"I- I can't say whether I am or not," He stuttered, gazing away from me, "I'm just the new British guy right now, nothing more or less."
Although he denied it, I knew that what he said wasn't the truth, and I went through the rest of the day thinking about it. What did he mean when he said he couldn't say? I thought, he had something to hide, but what he had to hide didn't exist. He had to prove it to me if he wanted me to know.
Natalie's words popped into my head over and over again, making me skeptical of vampires all together. He might bite me if I said anything to anyone, I thought, he might hurt me. Fear rushed through my body once again, chilling my bones.
"So, Chloe," Natalie came up to me in gym. Her wavy, blonde ponytail bounced as she walked, and she waved at me, "How hot was he?"
I fixed my eyes on the door, "Well, he's really good looking."
She sat down on the bleachers and smoothed out her black shorts and white t-shirt. I sat with her and did the same with my grey shorts and green t-shirt. The gym was warm. She leaned back, glaring at me to keep on talking about him. I pursed my lips and tried to avoid talking about him. I didn't want to think about him, but we had all the same classes- including this one.
He came out of the guy's locker room and made a huge scene. Girls flocked around him to hear his accent, and guys offered to play basketball with him. He did look good in his plain white t-shirt and basketball shorts. He had amazingly toned legs and ripped abs under his fitted shirt.
"Chloe," Lance shouted from across the gym. He pushed through the crowd and made his way to me, "Hey, Chloe."
"Hey, Lance," I got up to talk to him. We had bonded slightly in our previous classes, and we made our way to friends.
"So, who's your friend?" Lance questioned, pointing towards Natalie.
"Oh, hey. I'm Natalie," she told him. She stood up with the rest of us and walked us to the middle if the gym.
"So, I was thinking about what you said earlier," Lance whispered to me.
I widened my eyes, "What?"
"I love making you feel uncomfortable," He chuckled.
I shoved him, "Lance! You're suck a dork!" I giggled as I chased after him. We were so good with each other, like no one I had ever met. I ran out of breath and landed on the bleachers, waiting for Lance to plop down next to me.
"I'm so tired right now," I sighed when he sat down.
"Yeah, I hear you."
"So, where do you live," I paused, realizing how it sounded, "Not to be nosy but It'd be cool if we lived near each other."
"That doesn't sound stalker-ish at all," He joked, "but I moved into the house next to that castle-looking mansion."
I raised my eyebrows, "No way! The castle is where I live!" It seemed too weird knowing that Lance would be my neighbor. It did seem interesting, too.
"Wow, so do you," He put his hand on my knee, "want to walk home together?"
A smile crept onto my face, "Sure, but let me change first."
We were in our last class, and the bell had just rung. I hurried to the locker room and changed back into my sweater and jeans. I remembered that I had to go to my locker and get my coat. I slipped on my boots over my jeans and went back into the gym where Lance waited for me, alone.
"Hey," I said too loud.
He gazed up, "Hey, ready to go?" He stood up and grabbed his backpack, ready to leave.
"No," I pointed back to where the hallway was, "I have to go get my coat out of my locker."
He nodded in approval and walked to me, slipping his hand into mine. I bit my lip which made me grin. His hand felt so cold and mine felt so warm. It baffled me how far we had gotten in one day, and I pinched myself to see if I was dreaming. Nope, real life.
We walked home silently, mainly because of the icy air. It made my eyes sting and my lungs burn, and Lance looked unaffected. A breeze whipped around my body, and I shivered violently. Lance glared at me, taking off one layer and giving it to me. He was the perfect guy, but I still wanted to know about the 'vampire' thing.
"Well," He grabbed my other hand, which had a glove on it, and kissed me on the cheek, "I'll see you tomorrow, Chloe." He left me in front of my house, reminiscing our day.
Oh, Lance melted me even in the coldest climate.
I landed on my bed, already showered and in fuzzy pajamas, and switched on the television. As usual, nothing, out of the thousands of channels, interested me, and I forced myself to pick out a movie from my collection. I hopped over to my cabinet and chose a movie with Count Dracula in it, despite what had happened with Lance. I popped in the DVD and heard a tap at my window. When I looked out of the window, I saw Lance throwing rocks like in all of the romantic, Romeo-Juliet scenes.
"What the hell are you doing, Lance?" I yelled out the window.
"A life of love lasts forever," He shouted from the ground, me being on the second floor.
"Aww," I sighed with a fluttery feeling in my heart, "What do you mean exactly?"
He took a breath, hesitant, "I want to tell you but promise me to never to tell a soul."
