Trina's POV

Never had I experienced the fear of death staring my in the face, beaming in my eyes and my soul. It flamed my emotional well-being, thrusting every single moment of my life into my mind, and every second of my life relapsed in my brain, curving every memory into a perfectly shaped puzzle piece to my short and almost meaningless life. It felt worse than leaning back in a flimsy chair, rocking on the edge of flinging yourself backwards and the safety of having all four legs of the chair placed firmly on the ground.

But before I let the worst thing imaginable happen, I spoke what ought to be my final words, "W-who are you?"

"Your worst nightmare," The shady, rustic man whispers with a curled smirk slowly creeping onto his face.

The words pierced through my nerves, sending jolts and chills all over my weak, tensed body, and my mouth lost every ounce of moisture, leaving it as dry as a lifeless planet. I choked on my scratchy throat as I tried to form some words of persuasion. After all, I valued my life even more than when June sixth began.

"Alyssa's father?" I whispered almost silently and incoherently, "Why are you doing this to me?"

"You stole my little girl's first love," His eyes went black like a vampire, "I had to do something to save her from that heartbreak."

"B-but why go after m-me? I didn't even k-know who he w-was," I stuttered, attempting to keep my innocence alive, "I-I'm sorry."

"Alyssa obviously knew about you two before they broke up."

"N-no, of course not," I stammered some more, almost collapsing onto the front porch, "I never knew him until tonight. I swear to you."

"How can I believe you over my daughter!?" His voice raised louder, his face boiling red.

"Because she's freaking crazy as hell!" I screamed, tossing a fist to his face, running towards another house that might contain normal human beings instead of more people like Alyssa and her psychotic father.

Nothing was in my sight except the darkness and the soft glimmers of the stars above me, and I only wanted to be in my own bed, away from everyone possible. I had the most worried personality, and now, of all times, I was racing down an endless dirt road without any plan or weapons. I knew I was going to die, but I wasn't willing to give up on life and love that quick.

I spun around to face the very place where I had been moments before, and a spontaneous voice inside my head told me to go back to where I had experienced the pain and aching of heartbreak. Brad might be alive still, and he was one of the only reasons for me to live longer than tonight, so I had to return to him. Be his hero.

And besides the point that I was experienced in how to act when in a horror movie scene, I couldn't leave Brad to die, especially when he told me to go and get help. I desperately needed him to live, in order for us to tell our story and put the insane family behind bars. Forever.

"Trina! Come back to me!"

I wisped my hair back behind me as I ran unselfishly towards the cabin where I had left Brad, and I dared not turn back to see Alyssa's father's rustic face chasing after me. The only thing stopping me from getting there in one piece was the sound of Alyssa's voice close behind me, breathing heavily and out of breath.

I picked up speed, racing her to the cabin, hoping Brad had gained enough strength to run away and get help, but as I got closer to the cabin, I saw his limp body in a pool of red liquid. Blood, of all things. He was bleeding to death, if not already.

A whimper escaped my lips as I fell to my knees, supporting his head on my lap and smudging the stained blood off of his dirty face. I could barely stand the image of him in such pain, and I was forced to look away, resisting to make eye contact before he died.
