The first thing that had happened after Aredian's death a week ago was my father's attempt to apologise to Gaius. It should come as no surprise that it did not go as my father had hoped, Gaius had not forgiven him. I didn't blame him to be honest, I mean, my father did practically have Gaius executed and if it hadn't been for Arthur stopping the execution, Gaius would have died. But of course my father hadn't seen it that way. Shocker, right?

But with Camelot falling back into its normal routine, the group of knights that were supposed to be knighted before Aredian's arrival were finally getting the ceremony they'd been working for. There was at least half a dozen of them for this evening's celebration and to be honest I was grateful for the distraction.

Merlin and I were slowly going back to normal as well. He'd came and got all of his things that he'd hidden the day after Aredian had left. Since then we hadn't had much time to talk considering Gaius' chambers had been wrecked so Merlin was spending most of his time there. I'd offered to help but thanks to Arthur and father, I could barely get a second away from them.

Arthur was still panicked over the whole dagger to the throat situation and the fact that I'd killed someone. He was more worried about it than I was. Sure I killed someone but it was what was necessary. That didn't seem to comfort Arthur though as every time he was me, without fail, he would ask how I was coping. This evening was no exception.

"If you ever need to speak to someone about it

"If you ever need to speak to someone about it..." Arthur trailed off, as we stood at the front of the room, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

"I'll bottle it up," I teased, going for the option opposite of everything Arthur had been ranting on and on about.

"No. I know how it feels so talk to me," Arthur said.

"Free therapy sessions with Arthur. If you get snacks and drinks we could make a whole night out of it," I commented, making Arthur roll his eyes.

"Why do I get the feeling this is going in one ear and then out the other?" Arthur asked, making me smile at him.

"It registered the first four times but after that... my brain may have shut itself off. Not my fault though, it's an instinct," I shrugged.

Arthur and I then had to silence ourselves as father had almost finished walking down the line of knights that were now bending down onto their knees, ready to be knighted.

"Arise, Sir Vidor, knight of Camelot. Arise, Sir Caridoc, knight of Camelot," father had finally reached the end of the line and they all rose back up to their feet. "You've been accorded a great honour. But with that honour comes great responsibility. From this day forth, you are sworn to live by the Knights' Code. You, who pledge to conduct yourselves with nobility, honour, and respect, your word is your sacred bond. You will find no one who better embodies these values than my son—Arthur." Father rested a hand on Arthur's shoulder while I tried to hold back a laugh at how uncomfortable he looked. "Follow his example and you will prove yourselves worthy of your title."
