While Diego was dealing with his inebriated brother and the insufferable Number One, Y/N was suffering just another terrible day.
"Y/N can you help me with this inventory?" Xavier called her over.
"Sure... As long as it gets me away from Sarah."
"You can't hate her that much."
"Oh I do." Y/N grimaced.
The pair began to scan in the books in their latest shipment, uploading them to their system and placing them in different boxes, organised by genre to later be placed on the shelves. The task dragged on while the two busied themselves in catching up about their personal lives.
"Theo nearly spat his drink over the waiter." Xavier laughed.
"I can't bloody blame him. I'd pour my drink over him if he tried that pick up line on me."
"I didn't know whether to be flattered or insulted..." Xavier trailed off, "Anyway enough about me because you have been awfully quiet about your life recently."
Y/N sighed, "That's because there's nothing interesting to tell."
Xavier raised his eyebrows and tilted his head, "I smell bullshit."
"No... I don't know why you'd think that." Y/N smirked slightly.
"Well no I definitely know you're lying... Who is he?"
"Why do you assume there's a he?" Y/N teased.
"Because I know the face of someone who has recently found someone, now tell me, who is he?" Xavier insisted.
Y/N blushed slightly as she remembered how she met the man she has been speaking to, "Well... It's a bit difficult to explain."
Xavier smirked, "Oooh I like difficult."
"Remember when I was almost robbed?"
"You're not going to tell me you're dating the guy that tried stealing your stuff?" Xavier interrupted
"No. No of course not..." Y/N started, "There was this guy, he turned up and tied the guy with a gun up-"
"A policeman?"
"More of a vigilante. Think Batman but a bit worse."
Xavier's brow rose, "Ok... So what's this vigilante's name?"
"Well-"
Before Y/N could continue Sarah came over asking for her help. Y/N dragged her feet on the floor and traipsed towards the shelves.
"So... I kind of organised these shelves in alphabetical order... But-"
"But what?" Y/N asked, her eyes widening as she noticed Sarah smirk for a moment.
"These two shelves are the wrong way round and the lower one should be the upper one." Sarah laughed nervously.
"How. The. Fuck. Did you manage that?"
"I got distracted-"
Y/N seethed in anger as she spoke, "How?!"
"I just got really worried about Jeremy and-"
"Just go and help Xavier with the inventory I'll fix this."
Sarah smiled widely, "Thanks Y/N."
Sarah sauntered off to the back of the store as Y/N turned to the shelves and began to remove the books from the upper shelf and stack them in piles at her feet. Fixing Sarah's mistakes had become second nature to Y/N but this one was particularly stressful, the books were also unlabelled. Y/n spent the next hour rectifying the shitshow Sarah had created, and miraculously Sarah appeared once again.
"So Y/N, do you have any family?"
"Why the sudden interest in my genealogy Sarah?" Y/N asked bluntly.
"Just trying to make conversation with my favourite colleague." Sarah grinned.
"Favourite... I'm honoured."
"So, any family?"
"Nope."
"How come?" Sarah pushed.
"Parents dead, brother who fucking knows where."
"You have a brother?" Sarah asked.
"Yep." Y/N grimaced.
"What's he like?"
"Don't know."
"How can you not-"
"Would you just fuck off Sarah I'm trying to fix your mess!"
The entire shop went silent. Xavier held Y/N's gaze and nodded towards the back of the shop. Y/N apologised profusely but decided to stay behind the counter anyway, anything to be away from Sarah. The rest of Y/N's shift sped by and as she was finishing up her last sale of the day, Frankie walked through the door. Their head was pointed to the ground and they seemed to automatically find their way to the counter.
"Y/N I need some help" Frankie mumbled.
"Ok well if you just wait a few minutes I can lock up and then- holy shit what happened to your face?"
"A few kids from school thought it'd be funny to beat up the weird kid. Their words not mine."
"Well shit umm- Xavier! Can you lock up tonight I've got to get Frankie patched up."
"I don't need help-"
"If you go home like that your mums will kill me." Y/N cut her off.
"That's.... True."
Before anyone else could speak, someone else walked through the door.
"Hey Y/N, you around?" Diego called out.
"To what do I owe the pleasure Batman?" Y/N teased.
"Thought we could hang out. I've had a long day." Diego smiled.
"Who's the guy with the spandex" Frankie cut in.
"She related to you?"
"No they're not."
"Oh so how do you know them?" Diego asked.
"They're my colleague's kid."
"They are still here" Frankie smiled sarcastically.
"Right, I mean we can hang out Diego as long as you don't mind helping me patch Frankie up."
"I don't mind they seem pretty cool."
"Thanks Batman." Frankie smirked.
"Not you too kid." Diego sighed.
"How about this? You don't call me kid, I don't call you Batman."
"Deal."
The trio made their way out of the store waving goodbye to Xavier as they left and started walking to Y/N's apartment. Y/N pushed them to walk faster than normal pace as she was anxious to clean Frankie's cuts and help them ice their bruises as soon as possible. Y/N ran up the stairs in her apartment building and fumbled for her keys as she attempted to unlock the door. Once the door came unstuck, Y/N hauled Frankie inside and sat them down immediately.
"Let's not give them anymore bruises Y/N." Diego joked.
"I'm not trying to- Just, you can start with cleaning the wounds" Y/N handed him a cloth, "And I'll try and find some plasters or something."
"They aren't that bad." Frankie tried to comfort the stressed adult.
"Kid-"
"I thought we agreed you weren't going to call me kid."
"Ok, Frankie. Those cuts are nasty so come on, let me clean them." Diego ordered.
Diego and Frankie sat on the couch and Diego helped them clean their wounds while giving them a few pointers on what to do if this happened again. Meanwhile, Y/N rummaged around the kitchen to find a first aid kit. While she searched, Y/N began to sing to herself, careful to not disturb the pair in the other room. Diego finished cleaning Frankie's cuts and then went to find the first aid box that Y/n had apparently been searching for but hadn't come back with.
As Diego walked into the kitchen, he heard a voice singing.
'As long as I've got you and me,
Moving through this world as a two man team,
I'll always have everything I need,
You don't even realise,
You're all that I need.'
"Nice voice."
"Oh shit! Thanks..." Y/N trailed off.
"First aid box?"
"Right, umm here." Y/N thrust the box into Diego's hands.
As Diego made his way back into living room, Y/N fell to the ground, leaning against the counter. She stayed there until her breath evened out.
"Well shit."
