Y/N staggered into her apartment, her head still pounding after last night. Trudging through her living room and into her bedroom, she flopped directly into her bed. She wanted it to just swallow her whole so that she could hide from the world infinitely. Her bag was flung across the room as she curled into a ball.
She laid limp on her bed when all of a sudden, she heard footsteps coming from another room. As quietly as possible, Y/N made her way across her room and cracked open the door a tiny bit, praying that for once it would make the annoying creaky sound that it usually would. Peering through the gap, Y/N saw a slim figure with scruffy hair and the stereotypical black hoodie that every criminal in every TV show or movie ever. His head flicked towards the door and she flinched away from it, stumbling backwards slightly. Y/N fumbled around in her pocket, clutching her phone and dialling 911.
The floorboards squeaked as the burglar plodded towards the next room. Y/N hid in a corner and anxiously whispered her situation to the person on the other end of the phone.
"We're sending people over now"
"O-ok."
The call disconnected and Y/N rose from the corner and made her way into the now empty living room. Tiptoeing through the room, Y/N searched for the intruder, hoping to somehow smack him around the head, so that he would crumble to the ground and be incapacitated.
However, as Y/N stepped towards the kitchen, the stranger flew out of it and straight in front of Y/N.
"Shit."
The gun clicked and Y/N grabbed the first thing she could. A pillow from her couch. A fucking pillow. The intruder smirked and just cocked the gun. Y/N closed her eyes and prepared for the bullet to rip through her chest.
The front door was thrown open and a silver blade flew through the air, piercing the hoodie of the burglar. Three more followed it, almost as if they were holding each of his limbs. The mysterious vigilante handcuffed the gunman and shoves him to the floor.
"You're safe now." A deeper voice said.
Still frozen in her spot, Y/N barely managed to spit out a sarcastic comment, "My hero..."
"Did you really think that a pillow was gonna stop a bullet?" the man asked.
Y/N now looked pointedly at the man that apprehended the intruder, "It might not but it could slow it down, you never know... I don't know."
"Wow ok." the man scoffed.
"Hey you judge me for my pillow but you brought knives to a gun fight?"
"Real men throw knives." he shrugged off her comment.
Y/N looked the man up and down and noticed the heavy boots that weighed on his feet, as well as the leather straps across his chest with a myriad of blades held on them.
"Who are you?"
"Police."
"No you're not. No policeman looks like this. Who the hell are you?"
"I'm your saviour."
"Wow the ego is gargantuan with this one." Y/N mocked.
"Gargantuan?"
"Oh big words confuse you huh? Well, let me try and ask you in simpler words. Why are you in my flat?" Y/N asked.
"I just saved you. Why does it matter?" He bit back.
Silence snuck into the room as the two individuals stood awkwardly, Y/N staring at the ground and the man just waiting for another comment.
"Well you obviously aren't police."
"I did go to the academy..."
"But?"
"I got kicked out." He mumbled.
"So... you're a vigilante?" Y/N said as she slowly backed away slightly from this strange, knife-weilding man.
"No need to sound so condescending."
"Oh so you can use big words." she laughed.
"Look if what I do is so boring what do you do?" he asked crossing his arms and raising his eyebrows expectantly.
"I don't have to tell YOU anything."
"I saved your life so you owe me something."
"Oh you want to be that way huh? Ok. What do you want me to do?"
The man smirked as he spoke "I wouldn't mind if you did me."
Without missing a beat, Y/N responded "I assume you want me in latex then?"
"What? Wh-" he takes a moment to look at his attire, "That is one of my conditions."
"You're one of those kinky pricks then?"
"Prick? Wh- Wait. You're British. I was wondering what that sexy accent was" he smirked.
"Well thank you..." She trailed off, signalling that she wanted to know his name
"Diego."
"Y/N." she smiled.
Before the conversation could continue, sirens howled in the distance. Diego's eye widened and he ripped the knives out of the burglar's clothing, carefully placing them back in their designated place.
"Did you call the cops?"
"No, I just prayed that my knight in shining armour would appear... Of course I called the cops!" Y/N yelled.
Diego pushed passed her, "Shit. I gotta go."
"Why?"
"Let's just say that I'm not exactly friends with them."
"Oh. Ummm, ok."
"I really gotta go." he repeated.
"Thank fuck. I thought I was gonna have to watch you two make out." the burglar chimed in.
"Shut up!" Diego and Y/N shouted at them.
"See you around knife boy." Y/N said.
" See ya..."
"Y/N, I told you like three minutes ago."
"My bad. See you Y/N" Diego waved goodbye as he fled the apartment.
Y/N was left dumbfounded as officers rushed into the room. They lowered their weapons once they realised that the armed intruder had already been handcuffed. Hauling their body up, the officers escorted the burglar out of her apartment. Before they walked out the door, the female officer looked at the burglar's attire and sighed.
"Hi, I'm Detective Patch. I don't mean to sound blunt but, he was here wasn't he." She said.
"Who?"
"A man with short, dark hair, looks like he's in spandex with like a leather harness on him. Also, knives are his weapon of choice." She described the man who had just left.
"Oh you mean the bullshit Batman. Yeah, he flung his knives around and handcuffed him."
"He's really got to stop..." the detective mumbled.
"So that's what he meant by you aren't exactly friends."
"He spoke to you?"
"After he pinned them to the wall, he hung around and we just talked."
"About what?" she asked.
"Nothing really."
"Okay. Well, my advice for you is change your locks and just always make sure you lock your doors."
"Thanks... I guess."
The remaining officers made their way out of Y/N's apartment, leaving her somewhat stunned in her living room. She trudged around her couch and collapsed onto it, questioning everything that just occurred.
Frozen in place, she stared at the ceiling, just waiting for something to distract her. Luckily, her phone started ringing. She grabbed her phone out of her pocket and glanced at the screen lazily, accepting the call.
"Hello?"
"Hey! Did you get home ok?" Hannah asked.
"Well... Besides the fact that someone was in my flat with a gun when I got back." she replied.
"What?" Hannah yelled through the phone.
"Oh yeah, it's fine though because someone came to my rescue."
"The police?"
"Well, yeah but there was this random guy that like actually arrested him." Y/N replied casually.
"What do you mean a random guy?"
"His name was Diego. He like whipped these knives into the person's clothes and handcuffed them."
"And you just casually let him in and out of your apartment?" Hannah asked.
"Well, he helped me so why would I kick him out?"
"But there was a random man in your apartment!"
"He wasn't a stranger I know his name. He's Diego." Y/N laughed.
"And he just turned up to save you?"
"Yeah. I think it was like his job or something?"
"What like he's police?"
"No. Just-" Y/N caught herself as she sat up and noticed a small blade holding a piece of paper.
"Just what?"
"Hannah I gotta go." Y/N said.
"Oh- Ok. Well, stay safe."
"I'll try." Y/N chuckled as she cut off the call.
She climbed over her couch and yanked the knife out of the wall. Opening the small note, she smiled slightly as she read it.
'Text me sometime. -Diego'
And she did. They ended up talking for the rest of Diego's journey home.
