Adulthood. Betty felt the weight of it crushing her, breathing down her neck. She and her friends had just graduated, and now there was one last summer before they all split up for good. Veronica Lodge, Kevin Keller, and Cheryl Blossom were all Betty Cooper's best friends. They always looked out for her and were there for each other for everything. However, after summer ended, they were all going their separate ways.
Cheryl and her girlfriend Toni Topaz were both going to Highsmith College, where Toni would study photography and Cheryl would study business, in hopes of expanding her maple farm and competing with other companies. The couple were planning on staying together, and maybe even getting married during their time at Highsmith.
Kevin was going to Carnegie Mellon University, where he was studying music and theater in hopes of teaching other kids about it someday. His boyfriend Fangs was going to be living close by, at the University of Pittsburgh, where both of them wanted to do long distance for the entirety of college.
Veronica was going to Barnard in New York, where she would live her perfect party-girl life and eventually compete with her father in business. She was also planning on studying fashion. Her boyfriend, Archie Andrews was going into the army, but they were still madly in love.
All of Betty's friends had their lives perfectly planned out. They were all happy and in love, ready to begin the next chapter of their lives. Betty had half of her life figured out. She was going to Yale, and was training with the FBI. She was working on criminology, because that interested her for some reason. But even with all that she had to look forward to, she still felt empty. Betty had never been in love, had never thought once about what life would be like if she was in love. She always focused on her academics, working harder than ever to get into Yale and have a great future. She's never lived. That is, until her best friends came up with the idea of a summer bucket list.
...After Graduation...
"Ahhh! Guys we did it!!" Betty squealed.
"Goodbye Riverdale, you wicked little town!" Cheryl Blossom snickered, then wrapped her girlfriend in a kiss.
"Guys, we should do something to celebrate! Wanna get Pop's, then come to my house for a sleepover?" Veronica asked, holding her boyfriend's hand.
"Sounds great V. All of us? Or..." Betty nervously asked. She loves her friends, but whenever all of them hang out, she's like...a....seventh wheel. (A/N is that even a thing lol?) Veronica gave her a knowing smile and turned toward the rest of the gang.
"How about we all go to Pop's and then Cheryl, you and Kevin can all come over for a sleepover. Sound fun?" The squad nodded in agreement, and headed off to Pop's.
"Okay guys, do you want to play truth or dare?" Cheryl asked.
Veronica, Kevin, Betty, and Cheryl were all in their pj's, and were sitting in a circle telling secrets like all slumber parties.
"Ooh yes! We haven't played that in forever Cher!" Kevin squealed.
"Okay, I'll go first!" Veronica looked around the circle, then landed her eyes on Cheryl. "Cheryl, truth or dare?"
"Dare, obvi. I'm not a wimp."
Veronica leaned back, and pretended to think really hard about this dare. "Okay, Cher, I dare you to kiss me, right now." Kevin and Betty leaned forward in excitement. They knew that Veronica was bi, and that Cheryl used to have a small crush on her before she met Toni. It was exciting to see what they would do.
"Okay, challenge accepted, Lodge. Are you ready for this?" Veronica nodded. Cheryl crawled over to her, straddled her lap, and leaned in close.
"Just trust me," she whispered, then pressed her red lips onto Veronica's. The kiss lasted for 5 seconds maybe, before Cheryl pulled away.
"Okay, that was hot," Kevin said, "If you guys weren't dating other people, I would totally ship." The girls giggled.
"Okay Cheryl, who's next?" Veronica asked the girl who was still sitting on her lap.
Cheryl got up, then looked at her best friends.
"Cousin Betty, truth or dare?"
Betty nervously thought for a minute. Truths were safe. Dares were risky, but with a dare, nobody would call her a wimp.
"Uh dare. No truth! No wait, dare. Yeah, dare," Betty said.
"Great! I dare you to make a list of things you want to do before college, and I dare you to do all of them. Make sense?"
"Um, no not really."
"Veronica, would you be a dear and go grab a piece of paper and a pen?" Veronica hopped up and ran out of the room, returning a moment later with a half-used notebook and a gel pen.
"Great! Kevin, is there anything that you think Betty should do before she flies off to Yale?"
"Actually, yeah. I think she should go to a bar and get like, really drunk."
"Ooh, Kev, that's a good one! Veronica, write it down." Once Veronica had written that down, Cheryl continued: "I think that dear Cousin Betty should go skinny dipping sometime."
Veronica laughed and wrote that down, then quickly wrote something else.
"I think that Betty should go skydiving," she said.
Cheryl and Kevin giggled.
"See cousin? That's it. Just things you should do before college. Its simple."
Betty raised her hand, then asked anyway, "Why do I have to do this again?"
Cheryl sighed, "Because Betty, you've never lived. And before you become a boring, middle-class citizen, we want you to have fun, and actually, like, experience life. It'll be fun, I promise."
Veronica, Kevin, and Cheryl all continued to debate items on the list. Betty stayed silent. She knew she hadn't done as much as other teens, but still. The thought of doing all of the items on the list scared her. Like what if something bad happened? What if she did something she would regret later on? Betty was nervous, but she shouldn't have been. For that summer, was the best one of her entire life.
A/N: Woohoo! New book! So since its summer, I thought this would be a cute idea. I'll be trying to update both of my books more frequently, since I have more time now. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you enjoy this book so far!
