As Rainbow soared out the window, she had a cocky grin planted on her face. As soon as she was sure that she was out of eyesight of the others, the grin faded, and was replaced with a small, sad smile. Rainbow bit her lip- and gave up. The smile gave way to floods of tears and sobs. She quickly alighted next to the nearest tree, hiccuping and sniffling. "Stop it dashie. Just stop it." Dashie. My Dashie. My beautifu- "NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!" She hollered into the crisp evening air. "I DON'T NEED YOU! I DON-"

She stopped as a hoof was placed on her shoulder, and she was turned around to face a white mare, her electrifyingly blue mane bobbing as she nodded her head to some wild dubstep music throbbing from her chunky headphones. "HEY RAINBOW! HOW YA DOIN'?!" The music was obviously to loud for her to hear how loud she was. "I WAS JUST CHILLIN' BY THAT TREE OVER THERE, WHEN I SAW YOU LAND AND START MAKIN' SOME FREAKY HOOF GESTURES!" Rainbow smiled and took off the other pony's headphones off

"Hey Vinyl."

Equestria's best DJ, Vinyl scratch, smiled at her. "HI R- oh. Hi rainbow. You seem upset."

Rainbow's smile fell a little. "Yeah, it's nothing."

Vinyl looked skeptical.

"Didn't look like nothing to me, but I'll respect your privacy." She gave a mock curtsey, causing Rainbow to laugh.
"Hey. You must be bored of sleeping in trees and clouds. Come crash with me and Tavi. Sleeping outside can lead to some... Strange behavior." She uttered this last sentence with a meaningful look at Rainbow Dash, who grimaced.
"Y-you mean it? I can bunk with you guys?
She asked, tears brimming in her purple eyes.
"Um, of course!" Came the reply. "Livin' with Tavi's a bore. It'll be good to have some fun around the house!"

About an hour later, Rainbow was sitting Awkwardly in Vinyl's kitchen with a mug of hot chocolate, with a grey pony sitting across from her. The glass of red wine in her hoof was placed on the table. This was Octavia Melody, one of Equestria's best cellists, and Vinyl's housemate. "So," she said in her classy British accent, "Vinyl told me you were out rambling in the park."
Rainbow bit her lip, until she realised that Octavia was joking.
"Oh." She sighed. "Um, yeah, I guess I was, kind of."
"Why?"
"Huh?"
"Why were you... Upset?" Octavia asked, laying a hoof on one of Rainbow's.
"I'd rather not say." Mumbled Rainbow.
"Oh. Well maybe if I got you to talk to someone you trust about it? I promise you'll feel better afterwards..."

Rainbow sighed. "If you insist."
"Perfect!" Beamed Octavia, suddenly standing up. "I'll arrange it immediately! After that, I'm off to bed."

"Yeah, I'll hit the hay soon myself." Grunted Rainbow, getting up aswell.
"Night Octavia, and... Thanks again for... Everything." As she trotted off, she rubbed her face and thought to herself, "what have you gotten yourself into, Dash?!"

The next morning, Rainbow awoke in the guest room at Vinyl and Octavia's house.
She trotted into the kitchen to find 3 ponies sitting at the table. Octavia, Vinyl and- "Pinkie pie?!"
Exclaimed Dash, aghast.
"Yup!" Beamed Pinkie, overly happy as per the norm.
"Wh- what are you doing here?"
"Come to speak to you, duh!" Was the elated reply.
"Allow me to clarify." Interrupted Octavia.
"I told you you needed to talk to someone you trust, and here they are!"
"Oh!" Gasped Rainbow, the pieces falling together. "I get it. Thanks a bunch Octavia!"

A few minutes later, Pinkie grabbed Rainbow's hoof and led her to the spare bedroom where she had slept last night. Forcing dash down onto the bed, Pinkie then locked the door and turned, face surprisingly stern, to face her bewildered friend. "Now Dashie," she started, again catching Rainbow off guard with her calmness and composure. "You know I hate to see one of my friends sad. So, to make this easier for both of us, I want you to tell me the whole, entire, undiluted, unbarred, wholesome, entirety of the truth." At this point, her usual grin returned. "Ok?"
"Sure." Rainbow replied, and, taking a big breath, began.

"As a foal, my life was- difficult. My mother and father had a distant relationship. Dad was always yelling at mom, mom at dad, and I was stuck in the middle. When I was thirteen, they both decided they'd had enough of one another. They got a divorce. It tore me apart. Of course they tried the old 'we still love you' routine, but I wouldn't take it. I pleaded with them, but they wouldn't listen. Mom left, and I stayed with dad, not that I had a choice of course. It was ok at first, but soon dad started drinking, and would yell at me, hit me. At first, I beared through it. But soon, he started yelling louder, hitting harder. after three years, I ran away. I made my way to Mom's house. She took me inside and asked why I was there. I expected her to comfort me, tell me it was alright, but no. She. Freaked. Out. She ran straight to the police station, told them what was happening. For weeks on end, strange officials kept coming to our house and asking me about my dad. They kept telling me how it was 'alright', and that I would be fine. they took my dad away, and everything was alright. For five months. That's how long it took for things to fall apart again. They let him out. They believed that he had done his time, and released him with a warning. He wasn't allowed to be within ten miles of us, or to even contact us, or he'd go back to jail. We assumed he would stick to that rule, but he didn't. We started recieving messages from him, telling us that he was nearby, and angry. We ignored it, tried to move on with our lives. That's when the letters got more threatening. He started saying that he was outside the house, and coming to get us. He said he would KILL US FOR CELESTIA'S SAKE!!! Do you know what that's like?! We were scared for our lives! We started moving house regularly, to try and throw him off, but he kept finding us. The police couldn't do anything about it. How could they? We didnt know where he was! A couple of months after my seventeenth birthday my Mom got ill. The doctors couldn't find what was wrong with her. Three weeks later, she died. It was then that they found what had caused her illness. Severe stress. That BASTARD KILLED HER! HIM FOLLOWING US AROUND LIKE A BUCKING PEDOPHILE KILLED MY MOTHER! And did it stop there?! Of course not! I started getting notes, saying things about how he 'still loved me,' and 'wanted me to come home.' There was no way in hell I was going back to living with that asshole. I decided to go somewhere he would never find me. On my eighteenth birthday, I moved to a little town named Ponyville. It was great. Everypony was friendly, and dad could never find me. And so, I've lived here for years in peace. Then last Wednesday, I got a letter. I wasnt phased. Why would I be? It was just a letter. So, I opened it. I wish I'd burnt the bucking thing. I wish I'd done anything- except what I did. I read it. Inside, it said this:
Rainbow dash,
I know you hate me. I truly do. But I still love you. And I think you know, in the deepest part of your mind, that you want this to be over as much as I do. Please, stop pushing me away. Do it for your mother dash. Stop running.
You will forever be my beautiful Dashie.
My love and all the best.
Dad.
So you see... basically... what I mean is...
He's found me. And there's nowhere left to run."

With a great shuddering sigh, Rainbow finished, wiping her eyes. She looked up, and with astonishment, noticed Pinkie was crying too. "I am so, so sorry Dash!" she sobbed, flinging herself onto her cyan friend. And there, in Octavia's house, the two friends lay, holding each other, and sharing a broken heart.

A slight rapping on the door caused them both to jump slightly. Octavia walked in. "Rainbow," her british voice cooed. "There's some ponies here to see you." Rainbow nodded, composed herself, and trotted out. Her four other friends were out there, looking worried. After a moment of silence, Applejack spoke. "Thank Celestia y'all are ok. We couldn't find you or Pinkie anywhere! Anyway, Dash," she continued, "there's somepony here to see ya." The ponies split down the middle, allowing a dark blue pegasus with rainbow mane to trot slowly through. "Hello Dash," her father said with a smile. "I trust you got my letter?"
