When the thin man returns, he looks solemn. A scowl is plastered on his face and he falls flat onto the plush mattress that was his bed. Flinching as the creaks of old age pierced the air, I peeked over at him. He was already looking at me.
"I need you to promise me something." He sits up, looking into my eyes earnestly. "When things start to crumble, I need you to trust me." He lays his palm out, allowing me to crawl into it as he carries me out of the room. I had managed to get an adequate amount of rest whilst he had been gone and I was raring to go. As he carried me, I took a look at my surroundings, a yellow raincoat catching my eye.
"SIX!" I yell, running in that direction and free falling off thin man's hand. He quickly retrieves me, holding me tightly against his chest.
"All will become clear, kitten, just trust the process." His voice vibrates his chest, easing me into a relaxed state as we passed through a door and out into a room full of TVs. Across the monitors, the entire pale city was painted. I could see where our boat door was marooned, the school, the hospital, I could see in all the apartments and things, people, seemingly entranced by the TVs. One caught my eye though. Mono had stumbled in front of a monitor and was peering around a room, looking for another way out. "I know you haven't been here long, but I must return you know, I fear in bringing you here and keeping you it will make the future too unpredictable and the loop will remain intact. I need you to trust me kitten. We will meet again, next time on... less friendly terms... if you can trust me, I can save us both."
"B-but what if you can't? Save us?" I glance over at the fortune teller, me, and back at the thin man, Mono, and he glances over at the other me, smiling in heartbreak.
"I will. I will do everything in my power to prevent us from being stuck with this fate." His gaze returns to me, and he drops a chunk of bread into my arms. "Keep this, in case food gets scarce." He smiles, lightly patting my head with his pinky finger. "That's my kitten." And with that his attention moves to Mono's monitor, he moves me onto his shoulder to hide in his collar and pushes through the glass screen.
Mono stumbles to the floor, narrowly missing a falling axe he had been trying to reach. Taking it without hesitation, he moves forwards, breaking through a wooden door and following it into the next room. Thin man follows after him slowly, waiting by the door as Mono climbs up some wood panels, after all, he was only here to deliver me back to his younger self, the violence could be saved for later. We go through a different door and up a set of stairs, entering a long hallway of rooms with holes in the floor. He casually saunters onwards, aware of where Mono was but seemingly ignoring him. It gets to one hole and he stops, leaning over it and whispering under his breath. "Drop, run under the floor, I'll make it look like I'm trying to grab you again." I nod, before realising he couldn't see me, I go to jump but halt myself, turning and placing a light kiss on the man's cheek.
"I trust you." I whisper, jumping down and making a mad break for it, sliding under the floorboards and scooching away from his reaching hands. He slams a fist against the floor in anger and continues forwards.
"(Y/N)?" Mono calls, removing his hat and placing it in his pocket. I lock eyes with him and he starts to tear up. "(Y/N)!" He moves as quick as light, and before I know it he's pinned me to the ground in a viscous hug. Peppering kisses all over my face and taking in my appearance. "How-How did you escape?"
"He took his jacket off after he kidnapped me, I slipped into his top pocket and when he leaned over I took my chance to make a break for it..." It wasn't completely the truth, but it wasn't a lie and that was all that mattered. "Mono, he's got Six."
"What?" He sits up, shocked, "Well then we have to save her-SHIT!" He cusses under his breath and ruffles up his hair.
"What? What happened? How come you didn't know!?"
"I-, When you were taken a freaked out, i accidentally hit her and then I was just so enraged that I took it out on her, she probably hates me. He's going to use that and turn her into one of them..."
"Then we will have to turn her back." I butt in, caressing his cheek with my hand and placing a delicate kiss on his lips. "But to save her we have to keep moving, so come on." I take his hand in mine and we continue under the floorboards. We crawl through a hole and drop through a vent. I know thin man hasn't left, I knew for a fact he had listened to our conversation, his presence had a certain... feeling... I took a stool, knowing for a fact that he was probably not going to leave until he had convinced Mono that he wasn't going to back down until he had all of us locked up and under his control. SO when the door at the end of the hallway opened, I didn't jump, just continued to move the stool so that Mono could get to the window, help me up, and we could escape into the outdoors. Mono pulls me close, and I wrap my limbs around his, as we slide down roofs and land on solid concrete. Legs tangled and every inch of our bodies touching, we scrambled to part ourselves and run on, no longer sure of thin man's whereabouts. However, as we move forwards he returns. Being stuck in broken train carriages, we had no where to go but forwards, and that's what we did. Hand in hand we sprint, hurdling over obstacles and heaving each other over barricades. Barely making the jumps between sections and always just a hair away from being caught. I knew he wasn't going to do it though, he had a specific plan in mind.
