Who Am I Now?

Chapter 5

The next day couple of months were pretty amazing considering I haven't associated with anyone my age in two years. Every day I would get up, go to work and basically get into trouble with Liam. We always seemed to have trouble following us, but somehow Liam always got us out of it. I had made some more friends along the way and I wasn't so alone anymore.

I had decided to take a break from college considering I have all of eternity to learn. I wanted to focus on life for a little bit and try to achieve some real happiness. Here in this cafe I found myself the happiest I've been in almost two years. 

Every day I would meet new girls and yes they would shamelessly flirt with Liam but hey I wasn't his girlfriend so who was I to complain. No matter how much they were jealous non of the girls ever straight out asked if we were together nor were they straight out mean to me. It was almost surprising considering many people thought we were dating. I didn't really care about clearing that up because it wasn't really anyones business what we were to each other. 

My hate for humans was long gone and from my new perspective I could see them in a new light. Yeah I had been around humans while volunteering but that was different, those people were older and saw me as another grandchild, I never had to work for their acceptance. Being around people my age again made me realize just how much I missed having someone to confide in. Liam and I would go for long walks in the near by forest and talk for hours.

Thankfully he never asked about my past even though I could see he wanted to, I liked the fact that he never pried. When I was with Liam I wasn't some monster or someone who betrayed their friends, I was just Sammy. I think what I liked about him the most though is that he made me forget, not in the way were I was numb but in the way where when he was there it was like a breath of fresh air. 

Liam had become my best friend in such little time and I wouldn't have it any other way. I couldn't help but think that this will be the start of a new chapter in my life, one where I would finally be happy again.

It was closing time and Liam had decided to stay back and help me close up.  As I was locking the door behind us I felt him turn me around, I was confused to find him kneeling down as if he was about to ask me to merry him. I raised my eyebrows silently asking him what he was up to.

He took my hands in his and stared at me with a serious yet amused face. Just as I was about to ask him to say something already he did "Sammy I would like to know if you would do me the honor of going on a date with me tomorrow night?" 

To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I mean I knew he thought I was attractive but I thought those were just compliments friends give each other. I started to think what it would be like to date Liam. Honestly he's funny, charming, handsome and caring what more could a girl ask for? Even as I was thinking that I felt like something was off. I ignored my odd feeling and decided to go for it, I hardly had anything to lose.

"Oh yes Sir Liam I will go on a date with you, but under one condition" I said while trying not to laugh.

This time it was his turn to raise his eyebrows as he said "And what would that condition be beautiful?"

See that's how we were, we were always complimenting each other so I never thought anything of it but now it makes sense.

"The condition is that you make sure I don't get beaten up by one of your many fan girls" I said with a playful smirk.

He looked at me with shock clearly covering his face until it was taken over by amusement.

"You really are something Sammy" He said while he laughed.

He hugged me goodnight but right before he left he leaned down and whispered, "Don't worry I'll protect you" and with that he kissed my cheek and winked as he walked away. 

When I got home I checked my phone and saw I had no new messages. After a while my friends had sort of just given up, even my family didn't try anymore. I always had to remind myself that things were better this way and that starting tomorrow night I was turning over a new leaf.
