Sky led me to his car, telling me he'd take care of my car later. I slid into the passenger seat. A green tree hung from his rear-view mirror and the smell of stale fast food reeked in the car. Sky jumped in the driver's seat and gave me a devious smile, his dimples more apparent; I couldn’t help but to grin back. He turned on the engine and blasted his alternative music. As he pulled out of the hospital parking lot, he rolled down his window, "This is going to be fun, Elise."
"Oh, I bet," I turned down his music, "So, where do you live?"
"Hmmm," He laughed, "You'll see, sweetie."
I chuckled, "Well okay!"
The air blew into the car and ruffled my hair, lights from convenient stores, houses, cars, and lampposts flickered past and Sky sang loudly to his favorite song. Adrenaline pulsed through me. My worry faded with him, the image of my burned down home slipped from my mind.
“Sky, I love this!”
He leaned over to me and our lips met shortly. Facing back to the road, he said, “Oh, it’s going to get much-much more exciting.”
The trip to his house passed by quick, I sang with him, drumming my feet, I lost myself in him. We arrived, I didn’t think of how much time went by or where he drove me. Fast, he ran his fingers over my cheek and made out with me. I was intoxicated by him instead of liquor. His hands moved lower.
“Sky,” I started to think again, “Sky.”
He continued to touch me and I struggled, “Please stop.”
Pushing himself harder onto me, I yelp, “Stop.”
I kicked him, he back away and he gaped with shock, “Elise.”
Sitting up and looking around, crickets hummed, the musty scent of swamp flowed into the car. In front of the car sat a shack with loose floorboards and pieces of roof sliding off. I gazed at him. He hypnotic eyes glistened in the moon light.
I flung the door open and ran through the mushy dirt. My bag still sat in the car, he called after me, the shadows of the crooked trees loomed over me and weeds stuck out of the swamp. My feet sped up; sweat blinded my eyes. He dove at my feet and I toppled forward, my face becoming covered in mud.
“Sky!”
“Elise!” He chuckled, “It’ll be fine, I’ll take care of you, I promise, I promise.”
I punched him and squealed.
Dragging me to the shack, he cooed me and promised an array of lies. The wood creaked. Flipping my head every which way and struggling violently, I begged him to stop. He shoved me into a dark room with a small window at the top of the wall. A tiny bed sat in the corner.
“Sky!” I screamed, “What are you doing?!”
He murmured in anxiety and then raised his voice, “I’m getting your bag; I know you miss it.”
“No,” I wailed, banging on the sturdy door.
I twisted the doorknob, it clicked; it was locked. I crumpled to the ground and covered my face, shaking my head. My body tensed to stone. What’s he doing? I thought.
The lock snapped and the door turned ajar, “Elise,” his head peeked out.
I glowered at him.
He slid my bag through, “I know you’re upset but I promise that there’ll be no more fires.”
Gripping my bag, I gazed at him, my face draining with blood.
He shut the door, stomped out of the shack and drove away.
