The Girl Out of Time

Chapter 42

I woke up to someone poking my cheek. I cracked my eyes open to find myself laying against Happy's shoulder. We were both still sitting on the couch. Morgan and Sarah were sitting on the table in front of us with huge grins on their faces.

"You guys okay?" Sarah asked sharing a look with Morgan.

I groaned as I sat up. Happy groaned as he put his hands to his head. I guess I just finally passed out sometime this morning.

"You two hungry?" I asked the girls.

They both nodded.

"Let's get some breakfast then." I told them as I stood up.

The girls sat at the counter while I prepared breakfast. In the middle of me cooking Happy came into the room rubbing his eyes.

"Could I get some of that too please?" He asked as he sat on a stool.

"Of course" I chuckled.

I made them each a plate then made one for myself. We all sat at the island to silently eat our breakfast. Once we were done I worked on the dishes while the girls went outside to play. Happy continued to sit on his stool.

"You feeling okay Happy?" I asked with a small smile.

"Yea just a little rough this morning." He grumbled.

I chuckled softly then continued the dishes. Not long after I finished cleaning the kitchen Morgan and Sarah came running into the house.

"Mommy!" Sarah shouted.

Both girls looked out of breath.

"What? What's wrong? Who's hurt?" I questioned them both frantically.

"They're back!" Morgan cheered pointing to the door.

I glanced back at Happy in surprise. Already? Without another thought we all rushed outside to see several vehicles pulling up to the cabin. My hands covered my mouth as I watched each person get out. Pepper, Morgan ran straight to her. Rhodey. Wanda, my heart leapt. Bruce. Sam, my heart started beating erratically. Thor.

"Oh my god!" I shouted as I ran full speed to the raven haired man.

He stepped out of the small group. His eyes finding mine instantly.

"James!" I shouted as I jumped into his arms.

His arms tightened around me holding me tight. I sobbed into his neck. They did it! They brought him back!

I felt a soft tug on the back of my shirt. I instantly stepped back knowing exactly who it was. I kneeled down right in front of her. She glanced up at James then back to me.

"Mommy?" She questioned tilting her head to the side.

"Baby" I cried my first happy tears in five years.

I picked her up then turned to face James. The look on his face was one of completely shock and heart break.

"Sarah, I'd like you to meet your daddy." I said with a huge smile.

Her entire face lit up at my words.

"Really?" She asked me.

"Yes, uncle Stevie did it. He brought your daddy home." I told her.

She squealed with excitement as she jumped into James's arms. He instantly melted the moment her little arms wrapped around his neck. I looked around to find Pepper and Morgan. When I did find them my smile instantly fell. Pepper was on her knees in front of Morgan. She was saying something slowly that caused Morgan to burst into tears. I looked around the group of heroes.
