Flames rise, Ash falls, People cry, Hero's stand.
The structure of the house came crumbling down, beam by beam as the raging fire burned and melted everything in its path.
Smoke filled lungs, heat burned skin, orange and red blocked the vision of the 118 as they raced to find the child stuck inside the collapsing house.
The smell of burning wood was the only thing Zayn could smell as he entered the ,somehow, still standing doorway of the house. Trying his best not to let the smoke inhalation overpower his mindset, Zayn moved as quickly as possible through the fires.
"Malik? Are you ok?" Liam's stern voice came through the radio at Zayn's hip.
Not stopping his search and rescue, Zayn reaches down and pick up the radio. "Yes sir, I'm alright." He speaks quickly.
Outside, Liam nods as he watches on the thermal camera to make sure Zayn is still moving and alive. "Good. You're doing great, kid." He praises as good luck to the newbie.
Zayn nods, more to himself than anything. "Sir, what's the girls name?" He asks quickly.
Liam turns to the worried father beside him. "Sir? Can you tell us the child's name?"
"Uh, her name is Avery. She's six! And- and she's wearing uh- a purple shirt!" He says frantically, stuttering as only the worst outcomes run through his mind.
"Ok," Liam nods when the man continues to worry. "Sir, we're gonna get your daughter out, alright? But you've gotta calm down so my guy can do his job, ok? Can you do that?" Liam asks, holding the father back as he tries to run back into the burning house.
"Cap? You there?" Liam hears Zayn's strained voice through the radio.
"Yep, I'm here. Her name is Avery, she's six years old, and she has a purple shirt on. Got it?" Liam quickly responds.
"Yeah, cap." Zayn breaths put. "I got it." He huffs, as he continues to walks through the flames.
"C'mon, kid." Liam whispers to himself, silently encouraging Zayn to make it out.
"Avery!?" Zayn draws out the name as he yells for the small girl.
Zayn has been through the whole house while calling out for the child, and no luck. "Cap? I've been through the whole house and I've got nothing." Zayn breaths heavily through the radio.
"Shit." Liam cursed to himself.
"Cap?" Niall came up behind Liam with a worried look on his face.
"What's going on?" Lindsey asked, taking her helmet off and standing next to Liam.
"Zayn can't find the girl. He's been through the whole house, and she's not saying anything when he calls out to her."
"Tell me what to do, Cap." Zayn's frantic voice radios through and Liam sighs nervously.
"For now, keep looking. Do your best to find her. You'll be ok, Zayn." Liam encouraged.
"Just send us in, Cap." Tom said.
But Liam shook his head. "I can't risk anyone else.
"You sent Zayn in just fine." Billie said.
"I'm sorry, I just don't want anyone else in there right now. End of story." Liam told them firmly.
"Fuck!" They heard Zayn shout from the radio, right before a loud crash sounded in front of them.
All eyes pointed the source of the sound. The house engulfed in flames is now barely hanging on, the middle of the roof started to cave in and the supporting beams of the porch are now cracking.
