Koharu Kaguya could comfortably say she has been through a lot.

She can say she felt nervous, scared and full of adrenaline a lot of times in her life.

And ometimes it was good, sometimes it was bad.

But this time was worse then anything she ever witnessed, and she couldn't decide was it a good or a bad feeling.

She was sitting in her living room incapable to make a move out of fear and insecurity.

What brought her back to her senses was her small dog that approached her and laid in her lap.

Her dog was finally back home after it spent two weeks with the vet so at least some things were improving.

That little thing saved her life and helped her so much and she was worried for it as much as she was worried for the rest of her family, so the sight of her cuddling and playing in her lap as usual made the girl smile.

The puppy licked her hand, which was holding the box, as if it was consolating Koharu about it.

What was in that box was Kei'a birthday present.

She was awake three hours earlier because she planned on leaving early for school so she could place it in his locker before anyone came.

And the truth was, no one even knew she prepared a gift for him.

But she felt obligated since this gift was another promise she didn't have a chance to fulfill.

And when it came to volleyball club, the boys prepared a small present and a strawberry short cake for after the practice to surprise him.

Yamaguchi and her tried to convince them not to do it, since Kei didn't like surprises, but Sugawara was more persistent then anyone could imagine. So the best compromise they made was that Yachi should bring the cake after the practice to surprise him and then they would give him the present.

Also the birthday song was unavoidable, Suga didn't want to accept anything that didn't include it.

And all of them needed to sing too - he even made Kageyama practice it since he knew the boy would try to avoid it which was hilarious.

She sighed thinking about how much of a coward she is for not being able to face him but she was so scared that he would reject the present and she didn't think she could handle it. On the thought of it she buried her face into her palms, completely ready to burst into tears, but she stopped once she noticed her phone light up because of the message.

Iwaizumi:
Did you leave the gift already?

You:
No, I'm still home. I can't bring myself to move.

Iwaizumi:
You still have time, I woke up earlier to check if you woke up on time. Take it easy and don't worry. You can do it!

She smiled at the message.

Her and Iwaizumi got closer in the last few weeks. They really enjoyed each other's company.

For her, it was nice having an older friend who was more mature and more understanding. Plus, he was an outsider, not close to Kei, so it didn't feel unpleasant to mention Kei to him. She didn't do it often, it was rather rarely, but it was definitely enough for her to feel a little better.
