It's been hours since dad came into the hospital. I'm waiting shakingly for him to get out of the OR or for Shane to come out and give me some good or bad news. I looked out of the window in the lobby and cried silently. I felt it was my fault and went to aunt Maya's room. She wasn't in there but I got in and sat down on the bed. I sat there just staring at the wall not noticing Carina come in. She didn't say anything she just looked at me with a concerned look and when I finally caught her I had tears rolling down my cheek hugging a pillow.

"Oh hey... Carina, what's up?" She looked at me "you okay sweetheart?" she asks softly. I answered quickly "yeah I'm fine Carina." She came over to me and sat down with a hand over my shoulders forcing me into a soft hug. I didn't move at all, I didn't want the hug but I didn't want to move either. I was stuck in this hug for many minutes and when Carina let go I wanted her to hug me again and keep staying in the hug." do you know anything about dad?" I asked slowly. She looked up and me and shakes her head slightly. I understood and looked down. "It's my fault you know?" I said while breaking down. The answer I got was surprising. "even tho you ran away you weren't the one who pulled the trigger so it's not your fault. He went in alone u didn't force him to do it. you can't blame yourself, dear. don't do like Andy with Maya okay? promise me it." I nodded "okay"

(one hour later) (still seen from Elena)

Shane came after what felt like an eternity, I jumped up and ran to him begging him for news. I didn't want to show him how I felt, I was broken inside I felt like I was dying, and my soul was fading away. Into the darkness of my father's dying heart, or so I thought. He looked at me and smiled. "He'll make a full recovery." I teared up, thinking about how I almost lost him. "When can I see him?" I asked he answered "not yet, he isn't ready just quite yet. I'm Sorry but Maya is back in her room and Carina is there too if you need to talk to them." he said trying to look positively at me. I nod and I run up to Maya's room and knock. I hear a voice say come in so I walk inside. "Hey auntie Maya, how are you doing?" I ask looking at Maya. She looks at me then at Carina, then back to me. "I am okay Elena a bit tired but okay" I smile at her. "uhm, can... can I get a hug.. from one of you?" Carina stands up and walks to me and hugs me, she holds the hug for a while and then she gets paged so she needs to leave. She looks at me before leaving and whispered. "you know even though I am not technically your family I still love you as my family." I nod and then she runs so she can get to her patient. I walk over to Maya and sit down on her bed. I lay my head on her shoulder just so I can feel safe again.

I was still at the fire station when Carina called me and told me about Ryan but I couldn't leave the station either yet because I was the captain while Maya is in recovery. I asked about Elena and she said that she was safe and that she was with Maya. I felt relieved and then I had to run because the fire bell went off. As long as I knew Elena was okay I could go to the fire and also focus 100% on the job. I went to the team and got in the Ambulance and when I got on the scene it was a shitshow. It was a fire in a candy factory and it was a lot of people working so I started sending the team to do their job while I set up a triage area so we could help as many as possible while also being able to prioritize. Then I set Victoria and Travis up to do triage while I called for backup. The fire took 10 hours to get under control and when the B-Shift came to take over I was exhausted. I went home to sleep for a few hours and then went to the hospital. I asked about Ryan and the receptionist said that he was in the ICU sleeping after the surgery so I went into Maya's room to see if Elena was there. When I came to the door I saw Elena sleeping on Maya's shoulder so I just stood there looking and I felt more relaxed as I saw that my daughter was safe. Maya saw me and whispered something to Elena so she looked up and ran into my arms. "mom I'm sorry, I shouldn't have run away, can you forgive me, please? I love you" She said shakily. I hug her tightly and said, "Darling I am not mad I am just happy you are back, but please never do that again." She looks at me, then down. "I won't I promise" Saying that I hear Amy say. "Mrs. Herrera Ryan is now ready to be visited" I nod as me and Elena walk after Amy to Ryan's room.
