Your POV
My mind starts racing again, but nothing. I've been sitting against a log for two hours, trying to get my memories back. I hear the boys shouting behind me while standing around the fire. Their voices sound familiar only I don't remember where I heard them. A sigh leaves my mouth. This is useless, I came up in the box a few hours ago and, while I was getting the tour, Alby already told me that no one can rememeber anything else than their name. My name. Also something that is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't reach it.
"Hey, greenie."
A boy with a thick british accent sits next to me. His brown eyes look at me, filled with compassion.
"Why aren't you with the others? It's your bonfire."
"I just needed to think, none of this makes sence."
"Well, you're right there, love."
The nickname makes me blush. It's stupid, I don't even know why it did that to me. I look back at the fire, Gally is still looking at me. He's been doing that since I arrived.
"What is his problem?" I ask, while pointing at Gally.
"He's just worried. You're the first girl here and Gally doesn't really like change. It scares him."
I sigh again, not knowing what to say. These boys were doing pretty great before I came here. What if I ruin everything?
"I, on the other hand, think that they send a girl up here to help us. You seem smart, I'm sure you'll be able to help us a lot."
"Why do you think I'm smart?" I was suprised hearing him say that.
"Well, for starters, those shanks are drinking until they pass out and you're sitting here, thinking. Second, I heard that you didn't ask any questions while Alby was giving you the tour. Seems pretty smart to me."
"You know? Maybe I am smart." I laugh.
"What were you thinking about? You don't need to tell me, I'm just curious."
"I was trying to get some of my memories back, trying to hold on to something, before it is completely gone."
"Is it working."
"No."
His gaze softens. I gave him a bit of hope and now I feel guilty. They've been stuck in here for a long time and I can't imagine how hard that must be. I guess I'll find out soon.
"Don't worry about it, love. No one can remember."
"Yeah, but you all seem so familiar. I just can't press my finger on it."
"We had the same thing. I think that we knew each other before the maze."
"Maybe we did."
Silence came over us, while we both stared in front of us. Than something came to me. I never asked him his name.
"Hey, what's your name."
"Oh, Newt."
"Like the lizard." I chuckle
"Yeah, like the lizard." He playfully rolls his eyes.
I look at his face. Soft brown eyes, the sort you can get lost in, messy blond hair, his defined jawline. He surely doesn't look so bad. I see a smile on his face and then I realise that I've just been staring at him for the past few minutes, studying his face. What do I look like?
"Hey, lizard." I ask while mocking him.
Newt laughs softly.
"Yes, love?"
"It's kind of a weird question, but what do I look like?"
I have noticed that there weren't any mirrors around here and asking him was the only way I could find out.
"Well let's see, you've got shining y/e/c eyes and beautiful y/h/c hair. Oh, and you have the most amazing smile."
I smile at his cheessiness. That was smooth, I think to myself.
"Look there it is!"
"Well done, lizard. Well done."
"Thank you. Now as a reward can you drop the bloody nickname."
"Of course, blondie."
"Not as bad as the last one. You can keep it."
We laugh. Maybe life in the glade won't be so bad. Newt seems like a pretty nice boy, as long as I stay close to him I'll be just fine.
"You know, You have a hot accent."
Did I say that out loud? I kick myself mentally. A smirk appears on Newts face.
"Have I now."
"Oh, God!" I slap my forehead.
"Don't worry, love. I appreciate your honesty." Newt laughs.
I stay silent, trying to hide my cheeks that probably have turned bright red. Newt just keeps smiling. Well, atleast someone is enjoying this.
"We should probably head to bed. New day tomorrow." Newt breaks the silence.
He stands up and holds out his hand. I grap it, while he pulls me up. We start walking to the hammocks until Newt softly pushes me with his shoulder. I push back al little harder. Newt does a step to the side to keep his balance.
"Hey!" He says.
He pushes me back. I laugh. We do this for a few times, but then we walk in silence again. It's not an uncomfortable silnce, like I thought it would be. I can hear him breathing next to me, kicking away a stick on the ground. Suddenly he starts chuckling.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"I have a hot accent" He tries to make his accent even more noticeable.
"Oh, shut up."
I give him a final push.
