Your heart battered against your sternum, practically flying up the stairs to Ginny's room, drawing in alarmingly speedy gasps. You shut the door and slid down against it, propping your forehead up in contact with your knees to focus on slowing your breathing.
Taking a deep breath in through the nose, you held it for a few seconds before slowly letting it go through your lips. Your roaring pulse calmed with every inhale, steadying further after every exhale.
You skimmed your fingertips through your hair, pushing it away from your face that was firmly propped against your knees. The panic in your chest melted into unease and devouring guilt.
You had just left them there.
Your cheeks burned, a mixture of blazing embarrassment and regret spilling into the capillaries under your skin, buzzing in every vein.
"What if I told you I love you?" Fred's sweet words flooded your memory, how your heart swelled just at the thought of him saying that to you again. In the next breath, the passionate reminisce of you and George in the shower together took over, pulse racing in remembrance.
You mustered a faint laugh, realising how dramatic you were being. You acknowledged you had just completely overreacted, yet thinking about choosing between them still pulled at every string in your beating heart, severing each cord.
Low, gentle footsteps pricked at your eardrums outside the bedroom door, followed by a slick swish of a note passed underneath the small passage beside your left hip. Wiping your eyes, you picked up the note and unfolded the paper.
"Tea?" was all that was scrawled on the note in Fred's messy handwriting. Merlin, his writing was awful. You collected yourself with another deep inhale, settling your shaking hands as you stood up and opened the door.
Stood in the doorway in the dying light of the evening sun, were Fred and George, each with a mug of piping hot tea in hand. Fred held a second one for you. "Can we come in?", George said gently, a soft smile written across both of their faces.
You managed to offer them a small smile back, you were surprised they were being so kind to you. "I'm sorry" you said weakly, accepting the mug of tea from Fred and perching on the windowsill.
The twins sat down on either side of Ginny's bed, rolling their eyes playfully at your demeanour. "Finally! it's you that's apologising to us!" George gushed, tipping his head back and smacking his thigh, as if he was waiting for the words to slip from your lips.
You stifled another laugh, each and every emotion possible swirling in the pit of your stomach. "You're not mad at me?" you questioned, taking a sip of the milky brew.
The twins shared a knowing gaze between one another before looking back at you, one eyebrow raised with the other furrowed. "We get it" Fred began, "It's overwhelming, having to choose between such devilishly handsome gentlemen" George continued.
Tongue in cheek, you listened to them intently, your silence coaxing them on to continue. They knew exactly how to calm your nerves, the same way they knew how to set your heart alight.
"We would like to pose the question for a second time, that's if you don't run away again" Fred muttered, cocking his head cheekily at you. Butterflies. Millions of them climbed your stomach walls, fluttering into your throat.
Fred and George leant back on the bed, propping themselves up on an elbow each, observing you with beady eagle eyes. Your palms became clammy once more, the heat of the freshly poured tea creating additional detriment.
"I don't think I can choose" you mumbled quietly, the boys barely heard you. George set his mug down on the nightstand beside him so he could lean toward you, elbows now resting on his knees with his chin cupped in his hands.
"Now that's just greedy, Y/N" he flashed a cocky smile, raising his brow for a second time. They were trying to make light of the situation, surely they recognised how nervous you were. However, their pressing only made the throned vines of anxiety stab into your ribcage with a greater force.
"I'm serious" you grumbled, launching a battered book that rested beside you at his head. George ducked his head in time for the hand-me-down novel to clatter against the wall, tumbling onto the floor with upturned open pages.
"So are we" Fred said, his casual tone glinted with concern and hurt, he was taking this harder than his brother. Placing the mug down, you pressed the warm pads of your forefingers and thumbs against the bridge of your nose.
"Of course I like you! I love you!" you blurted out in response, flapping a hand to the side almost knocking over your tea. "I love you" you said it with a greater confidence, accepting that you truly did love him. You loved them both.
"I love the both of you. In different ways... you're two completely different people'' your words ran away with themselves. You didn't mean for them to come out, but it felt right for them to fly from the billowing vortex of your brain into the infinite open atmosphere.
"You can't make me choose" you affirmed. A horrible suffocating blanket of silence cloaked the air, Fred's calming manner gradually twisted into apparent exasperation with every second that passed.
An awfully well known trait of Fred's was that he was a jealous type. Sure, he was proud, ambitious and driven, however his jealousy was a piece of the jenga tower that could bring all of his good traits crashing down.
"I'm down for a three way relationship" George cut the tension and bitter silence with that one simple sentence. He glanced between you and Fred who were locked in a blazing stare-down.
"Shut the fuck up, George" he snarled, his knuckles clenched around the mug were a ghostly white. He exhaled a huffed laugh through his nose and rose from the bed, turning on his heels to exit the bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
You swallowed hard, if you weren't fighting with one twin, you were fighting with the other. "For merlin's sake" you sighed to yourself, George only stuck out his bottom lip at you. "He's just being dramatic, he'll come around" George assured you.
Fred didn't pull a temper tantrum often, sometimes he couldn't manage not getting his own way. He didn't mean any harm, sometimes he had to process his own feelings with himself for a while before realising he's being a complete prick.
"Why does trouble follow you everywhere?" he asked, he pursed his head up and folded his arms, the question was genuine. "Trouble seems to be following me a hell of a lot more since I've befriended you two" you giggled.
"Befriended? Bedded more like" he smirked, taking a final long swig of the tea from his mug. "Shut the fuck up, George" you copied Fred's previous words with a similar tone, you knew he was being overly emotional, like a toddler spitting their dummy out.
You sat there laughing together for a few minutes, George throwing in the obvious flirty remarks, pairing some compliments with a little light hearted teasing.
"But please, as beautiful as that surprise was, and how much I adore the gifts... please don't do that again" you said lightly. You really did appreciate the effort they made, but clearly a relationship with either of them wasn't on the cards right now.
The summer had barely even begun, you couldn't go from enemies, to casual sex with the both of them, to falling completely head of heels for them in the space of a couple of weeks.
George was taking the rejection rather well, after taking a few minutes to talk about it you both established you were on the same page. It was too soon.
That doesn't mean the fun can't continue, right?

Note: I am so incredibly sorry this chapter is complete shite, lmao.
I've been really bogged down with work at the moment, I barely have any time for myself let alone writing.
Also i've been feeling majorly uninspired. If there's anything you would like to see more of, or something you think this book is lacking then please let me know! I need all the ideas I can get right now 😂
