Content warning - smutYour make up with Ron made your return into the Burrow feel relaxed, normal even. The same vibe you detected after stepping out of your fathers beat up 1989 honda accord when the summer began. The Weasley abode teemed with life, sparkled with fellowship and connectedness that made their family glow.
After your hearty breakfast later in the afternoon, Molly and Arthur had left through the fireplace (the floo network never failing to amaze you) to pick up some groceries, thus leaving their children and guests to their own devices.
Ginny and Hermione had already drawn up sketches of how they wanted the garden to look for Harry's birthday. Decked out with fairy lights and bunting, Ginny pictured maroon table tops with candle lanterns, and enough cake to last the rest of the year. She had a big heart with a lot of love to give, and when it came to her other half, that love spilled out to no end.
There was still plenty of planning to do, and activities to arrange. With the days leading up to Harry's special day, you knew that you would be sent here, there and everywhere in both the muggle and wizarding world to collect the decor and arrangements. Not that you minded, it actually made you quite excited. Something to look forward to at the end of a very dramatic summer.
The girls were sat chatting under the large oak tree in the garden, Hermione also had her sixth year textbooks piled high next to her, where she'd flick through a page every so often. Ron had brought the wizard chess board outside after being given the hairdryer treatment from his mother about staying indoors. In hand, Harry had agreed to a few matches - you were to play the loser. Fred and George occupied themselves with Exploding Snap, a game they were very skilled at and one they insisted on playing.
You watched them fondly from the kitchen window, taking the opportunity with Molly being gone to cook lunch for the household since she never let you. She would most likely tell you off for it, in a loving way of course, but you accepted the consequences.
Your father had made the most beautiful plates that arrived at the Burrow safely in your owl Olive's talons with the most recent letter from your parents, carefully wrapped in mounds of parchment. This was your parents' way of saying 'thankyou' to Molly and Arthur for letting you stay with them for the summer. Every year you stayed with the Weasley's your father would craft pottery as a thankyou gift, and Molly proudly displayed them around the house.
They were running out of shelves for your fathers work to sit, so you thought you'd put these plates to some good use. There were vegetables sitting on the counter that looked a little past their shelf life, so you decided to whip up a hotpot with the leftover veg.
You'd brought the CD player down from Ron's room so you could listen to the songs you'd painstakingly burned onto the disk, hunched over your mothers computer that was a key click away from self-destructing. That was a few easter holidays ago, surprising Ron that summer when you rocked up to the Burrow with the CD player in hand.
Chopping up some carrots and potatoes, you swayed your hips to the music, mindlessly singing along to the tunes now that you had the house to yourself. The music faintly carried outside where the others could only just hear over the rustling of the wind in the trees.
George lifted his head from the Exploding Snap when he heard the intro to the next song. One that you had introduced him to, a muggle song that quickly became one of his favourites - 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' by The Police. Fred looked up and followed his gaze to the kitchen window, and shoved his brother playfully. Without a word between one another, George stood up and purposefully knocked the wizard chess board, knocking Harry and Ron's pawns onto the grass.
