A few weeks later

'Please just sleep'

Albedo frowned, holding up his sketchbook to tell his best friend off for being the idiot she was.

Y/n could tell he was beginning to get frustrated with her but she wouldn't listen either way. The number of times she startled herself with her own reflection won't change her mind about keeping an eye out for Albedo.

Despite their arguments, neither of them could stay mad. Not when Albedo's heart could stop at any moment.

"I'll sleep when I know you'll be okay," Y/n said firmly. She could see the blonde beauty himself as he laid down, frowning at the ceiling. His fingers played and pinched with his hospital bed blankets, nearly tearing it if he hadn't composed himself from his irritation.

He closed his eyes and breathed out. Imagining he was anywhere else but there. Maybe in his apartment... with Y/n and Klee.

They were living happily, healthy and immune to illnesses.

What a joke.

Albedo wanted to go home. But he knew he was better off bedridden in the hospital. He couldn't put Y/n's decorating to waste... especially after she worked so hard to make it as comfortable for him as it felt when she was in his arms.

When they slow danced, it didn't matter where they were; as long as he was with her, he didn't care.

When Albedo finally opened his eyes, he reached out for his sketchbook but stopped to peer over at Y/n. She continued to create paper cranes. It'd been a couple of weeks since she started.. she was now on 438.

Piles and piles surrounded her body like mountains and even she began to look as sickly as Albedo was. He frowned at the way her eyebags dug into her skull.

Of course, they'd been there before he was hospitalized considering college was a bitch... But he didn't forget the way they'd been beneath her eyes only. Now they sunk all around them, making Y/n look like a living corpse.

Then again he had no room to talk. Not only was he sickly looking, but Albedo was dangerously close to skin and bones.

It was as if one nudge and he'd turn into dust. As fragile as a porcelain doll, broken many times only to be broken again by a mere touch.

He wasn't broken.

Not yet.

A battle with herself.

Y/n, weak and sluggish, felt as if she had shared a body with Albedo. But she couldn't compare her lack of rest to someone with an illness.

Albedo was in so much more pain than she was. They were just fighting their own battles. Protesting against their tired bodies for the same reason of staying active.

The sun had set minutes ago, leaving a dark room neither of the college students had the energy to light up. Not that they cared much or the light, the moon would do its job later.

Sure it didn't provide the best lighting, but it delivered enough.

Standing from her spot on the floor, Y/n trudged over to the piano. Her fingers ghosted over the notes Albedo had taught her to play. A phantom sensation rushed over her as her hands felt the keys, missing the skin-on-skin contact she had with her first love.

The way his fingers brushed along hers, teaching Y/n to the best of his abilities his favourite song.

She couldn't remember the next notes and for a moment, Y/n glanced behind her, requesting assistance silently before discouraging herself from waking Albedo from his slumber.

She could hear his breathing from across the room, making sure it wasn't just her own by silencing herself.

After a meeting moment of stillness, Y/n sighed in relief and closed the lid to the piano to prevent any noise from disrupting Albedo's rest.

She placed her head in her arms, laying comfortably on the piano top. The vase of Cecelia's stood in the centre of her line of sight and she examined the way they began to die.

White petals, once so beautiful began to rot.

A ringing filled Y/n's ears.

She just couldn't stand to hold herself up any longer. With her blurring vision, and her heavy eyelids.

Y/n finally gave in.
