(sorry its so short, im sick and I just wanted to get it posted. My editor will go over it later, but for now this is all I can post. enjoy!)
5 days.
5 days since her sister was ripped away from her.
4 days.
4 days since she woke up all alone.
A pounding headache and the sound of whispering were what greeted loreli when she awoke. Looking around, she realized she was in a different place than before.
Since when was she on the couch?
Standing up on wobbly legs, her mind fuzzy as she surveyed her surroundings.
On the ground near her feet were the emergency bag and math box, but that wasn't what caught her attention. Next to those bags were new clothes, food, and another bag that looked ancient.
Was that all a dream?
She wondered to herself as she examined the new outfit and food.
The outfit was a black shirt with a hunter's coat that reached past her knees. Black leggings sat next to the coat, along with brown boots with dirt on them. Overall it was a comfortable outfit, fitting Loreli almost perfectly, which was surprising.
The food wasn't anything special, but it was definitely better than anything in the vault. It was red berries that Loreli had never seen in the garden, tasting very sweet and refreshing. There were also slices of meat on somewhat stale bread. The meal filled her stomach, giving her mind a new sense of security.
Food in her stomach and a new outfit on, Loreli focused on the numbing pain in her arm. Lifting it up slightly, she examined the expertly wrapped bandage that held her arm in place. A weird smell came from the bandage and she realized that her arm should've been much worse than it currently was. It was bent unnaturally only a day ago ( as she could see from an old clock on the wall), and suddenly it only felt as if she sprang it. Maybe it had something to do with the weird smell?
Shaking off the loose thoughts, loreli focused on the unusual bag that she was sure no one in the vault owned. Reaching forward, she started rummaging through its contents.
Laying it all out, she started to identify what she could.
The Backpack had a bag of those strange berries, a vial of a green substance, bandages, a bag of cheese, a mysterious ball that had something floating inside, and a drawing notebook.
Curious, she scanned through the book's contents only to see drawings and descriptions of horrible beasts, strange villages, and other wonders unlike any she had ever seen.
A certain familiar page caught her attention, though, as she recognized the drawing that covered it.
A figure and a dog creature were drawn in intense detail, the familiar shadows covering every inch of them except for the piercing blue eyes. A note was drawn in bright red right next to it-
DANGER! STAY AWAY AT ALL COST!
As loreli stared dumbfounded at the page, a creaking sound caused her fight or flight mode. Looking over at the door stood a short figure.
¨so. You're finally awake.¨
