"sage, are you ready to go to your daddy's?" you yell up the stairs. the little girl walks out of her room with a book bag that was bigger than her slung across both her shoulders. "yes!" she squeals and you smile softly. pete was an amazing father you admit. she loved him more than anything. "okay, sweat pea. let me grab your bag, he'll be here in 5 minutes." you say and she walks, well more like waddles down the stairs because her legs were so short. you grab her bag and set it on the couch and the four year old grabs the tv remote and turns on some random and quite honestly, annoying cartoon show.
you were waiting to hear pete honk his car horn because that's what he usually does but instead there's a knock at the door. you furrow your eyebrows but get up and answer the door. and to your surprise there was pete. "hey, y/n." he smiles and save runs over to him, giving him and hug and he picks her up, spinning her around on the porch. "hey." you respond as he sets her down. "i forgot to call and let you know but some guys are working in the house with the new kitchen and it's pretty loud and my house is kinda torn up so i was wondering if i could just stay here with sage?" he asks and your eyes go wide. "pete, you can't stay at my-" sage cuts you off by bouncing around and squeaking with joy. "yes, daddy can stay!!" she yells and tries to drag him inside. "go set up a tea party and daddy will be right up." he smiles. "i need to talk to mommy for a bit, okay princess?" she nods and runs to her room.
"please, y/n. i know this is my week to see her but i don't really want her in the house with all the work that's going on. i still really want to see her." he says and you shake your head. "get a hotel room or something, pete. stay with your mom. you're not staying an entire week here." he smirks. "what? scared you'll fall in love with me again?" he laughs slightly and you roll your eyes. "no but seriously. i would let you stay at my house if you needed to."
"i would hope so for all the hell you caused me." you snap and try to shut the door but pete stops it with his foot. "please." he whispers. "you won't even know i'm here." he says and smiles. "i'm supposed to have company over in 2 days. i can't when my daughter and my baby dad is here." little did you know, pete's heart dropped. he never thought about being with anyone else, even if it's been 2 years. so the thought of you being with someone else hurt him. "company? you have a boyfriend?" he questions. "it's not your business."
"it kinda is. who is he? has he met sage? does sage think that's her stepdad?" he gets worried and a little angry. "no, he hasn't met her yet." you snap and cross your arms. "don't you need to call your mom and see if you can stay there or something?" you raise and eyebrow and he sighs. "just let me stay here. i miss this house anyways. i'll help you clean, you can have your company or whoever come over, i'll make dinner so you can relax." you bite your lip. "fine, whatever. you can stay. but only for sage's sake." you step out of the doorframe and pete walks in. he looks around, not much a has changed since you both broke up. the furniture that the both of you picked out from IKEA was still here, pictures of you, your daughter, and pete were still on the fridge. pete grabs the picture and smiles. "i forgot about this." he says and holds it up for you to look at and you nod.
honestly, things stayed the same because you missed pete like crazy. the breakup was messy, you both just kept arguing all the time because pete couldn't straighten up for the life of him, or even for his own daughter and you were tired of it, so you told him to leave and not to come back. but from what you hear now he's doing great.
sage runs downstairs and drags pete right back up the stairs with him, she was probably finished setting up the tea party. you decide to go out and get some grocery shopping done.
when you come back you see pete and sage playing just dance on the tv in the living room and you smile as you watch the both of them. you miss having pete over and you loved seeing him with your guys daughter. like you said before, he's an amazing father and has matured a lot. you set the grocery bags down. pete turns his head over to you and stops what he's doing. "hang on darling, let me help mommy." he says and walks over to you, putting the groceries away. "why are you helping me?" he looks at you. "because this is supposed to be your week off." he laughs and you shrug in agreement.
hours have passed and it was around 10. "i just put her to sleep." pete says as he quietly walks down the stairs. "sooo is it okay if i sleep in the guest room? or the couch? or where?" he aks. "the guest room is fine." you say and get up. "i'm also going to head to bed." pete grabs his bag and nods. "okay, y/n. i'll see you tomorrow." he stands there, slightly hint he'd over because of his height and his bad posture. "see you tomorrow pete."
"sweet dreams!" he calls out and not too long after that you crash into your bed and fall asleep. a couple hours go past and you wake up suddenly to the feeling of the bed dipping down. "what are you doing!?" you whisper shout and turn over and see pete. "i can't sleep." you looked at him confused but surprised. "you can't sleep here!" he laughs and shakes his head. "hell if i can't. i paid for this bed." he smirks and lays down, sighing. "you know, i miss you so much." he admits and bites his lip. "i wish i was here with the both of you all the time. i wish i seen sage every day and not just the days i have custody. i miss our little family, i miss us. i know things ended pretty bad but i'm better. i'm sober." he says and looks at you, tears welling up in his eyes.
"i miss you too. trust me. not a day goes by where i don't think about you." you start but pete cuts you off. "so who are you seeing?" he asks and you go quiet. "y/m, i haven't even fucked since we broke up." he chuckled, making you feel bad. but you don't understand why it made you feel bad. you and pete weren't together. it was okay to move on. "that's good for you, pete. but i decided i didn't want to be laying in bed alone at night anymore." you tell him. "should have just gave me a call, baby." he smiles and moves a strand of hair out of your face. you both were laying down and facing each other as he traces over your features. you lean in, closing the space around you both and he grabs the back of your head, making the kiss deeper.
the next morning you wake up on top of pete's chest, both of you naked. once you realize this you quickly get up and get dressed. "come lay with me for a little longer." he groans out. "pete we shouldn't have.." he sits up and runs his eyes. "maybe we shouldn't have but, shit. it was good. i forgot how good." he smirks and reaches into his pant pocket for a blunt. "what time is it?" you ask him. "8:30." you sigh and run your fingers through your hair, trying to deranged it. "i'm going to be late." you say. "i need to get sage up, she has school at 9:30." you tell pete. "don't worry about it, i got it." he inhaled the last little bit of the blunt and puts it out. "i can get her up and dressed." he stands up and puts on his boxers. you stare at him, he looked so good. "like what you see?" he asks as he's putting his pj pants back on.
"we can't do that again. i need you out of the house." you say. "i'll have sage's babysitter pick her up. i want you gone before i come back from work." pete's facial expression drops. "you can't be serious." he says and stops whatever he was doing. "pete this isn't good for us." you told him. "i told you i was sober now!" he yells and looks at you with disappointment. "you know what. fine. whatever. i'll be gone. i'll take sage with me to my moms. hope you and whoever the fuck have a wonderful life together. but i'll tell you what, if you bring him around my daughter i swear to god i will-"
"you'll what pete? she's my daughter too." you snap and step closer to him. "i'll get full custody." he says and begins picking his clothes up. "yeah, okay." you roll your eyes. he walks to sages room and wakes her up, helping her pick out an outfit for school and helping her get dressed.
"we won't be here when you get off. we'll be at my moms. call me if you need anything. even though i'm pissed off, i still meant everything i said last night. even if you didn't."
