pete did what he said he would. he took sage to his moms house and spent the week there. well, the week was over and pete was now handing sage back to you. "can we talk?" he asks softly and you already knew what the conversation is going to look like. "pete-" you sigh and shut the door behind you, crossing your jacket over your body. "what?" he sits down at the porch swing and pats the spot next to him. "i need you to talk to me, without arguing y/n." his voice was soft and he looked at you with these puppy dog eyes. "okay." you agree. "you promise you won't flip out?" you nod. "yes, pete."
"i want us to try again. we can go slow, i'll take you out to small dates, dinners, whatever you want. i just want you to know that i love you more than anything." he says. "i miss you so, so much. i went to rehab for you and sage. the only thing i do is smoke pot." you bite your lip. "i'm just scared we'll start arguing again. i'm scared you'll just start leaving every night like how you did." you sigh and rub your eyes with the palms of your hand. "i promise..let's just take it slow, okay?" he asks and you nod. "okay." you smile lightly and look at him and he smiles back. "great. i'll take you out for dinner tomorrow." he says and kisses your cheek and you move over to kiss his lips softly. "where we going?" you ask him. "it's a surprise!" he smiles and gets up. "i'll see you tomorrow okay?"
        "i'll see you tomorrow." you whisper back. you get up and tell sage that pete is leaving and she comes down and gives him a hug and stuff. "call me if you need anything." pete says as he gets in the car and you watch him. you could be making a really good decision or an extremely good one.
            it was around 5 and your phone started buzzing. you look over at it and it was pete texting you.

     pete: hey, i'll be over at 5 ((:

     y/n: okay, i'll be here. i'm still waiting on your mom to come and get her.

      pete: she's not that far away she'll definitely get there before i do. she's excited to spend some time with sage. i'm excited to spend some time with you (;

   you smile as you read the text but put your phone away when you hear the doorbell ring. it was pete's mom and she had a smile on her face. "hello, y/n. where's sage?" you let her in and close the door behind you. she gasps when she sees her coloring on the coffee table and tries to pick her up but realize she's too big. "you're getting really big, huh?" sage nods and smiles. "i'm going to be like this talk when i'm 5." she stretches her arm out and you chuckle, knowing she's definitely not going to grow that much in just a week. "so you and pete are getting back together?" she asks as she turns to you with a smile. "not exactly.." you say. "we're just going to go slow and see where we end up." you finish. "i understand." she says. "he misses you a lot. he always comes over and will just cry because he knows he messed up. but don't tell him i said that." she chuckles.
         pete knocks on the door and you let him in. he looks at your outfit and bites his lip. "you look gorgeous." he whispers. you were wearing a black slip on dress that was fitted to your body and a black jacket to match (to keep it more casual) and tights with some small platform shoes. "thank you." you smile. "hi daddy!" sage yells and runs over to him and hugs his leg. "hey princess. me and mommy are going to spend some time tonight." she frowns. "what! i spent all week with you and i came by yesterday to see you. mommy misses me now. and you'll be with grandma." she pouts. "fine." he smiles and kneels down, kissing her forehead. "i'll see you tomorrow okay? i love you." she says it back and you and pete get into the car.
        the ride wasn't awkward at all. you both were just catching up on everything you both have missed the past two years. pete came out with a movie and has been traveling quite a bit on the weeks he didn't have your daughter but made sure he was back in time to still see her. you told him that your life is a little bit more boring and you only just work and watch sage.
        "we're here." he says and pulls up to a random field. "i thought we were going to dinner?" you ask and he smiles. "we are!" he lays down a blanket and brings out all the food that was in baskets and sets it on top of the blanket. "i made everything." he smiles proudly but you know that pete isn't the best cook but it was okay.
            you both took a seat on the blanket, pete even brought out small pillows for the both of you to lay on or sit on. "i tried making steak but i burnt it so i made ham and cheese sandwiches." you laugh and look at him. "that's okay, i love ham and cheese sandwiches." you tell him and trace one of his tattoos on his arm. "i really hope this works out." he says so lowly he's probably talking to himself. "it will. we just need to give it time." you tell him and he smiles. "you're right."
           the conversation switched from you guys to what you were going to do for sage's birthday party next week. "can we just throw one together at your house?" you ask pete. "yours is a lot nicer." you laugh and he shrugs. "we can throw the party at my house. all the renovation stuff is finally done. they've been working on it for months. but you don't want to do two separate parties?" he asks, hope behind his voice and you shake your head. "no, i would rather us just do one party." you say and he smiles. "great! we'll have it at my place. i know she'll be excited that we're both there." you nod, taking a bite out of your food. pete pats his lap and you laugh. "come sit." he says and you get up, sitting on his lap. you run your fingers through his hair and you he closes his eyes.                          he opens his eyes back up and kisses you and you kiss back. he lays you down on your back, lips not leaving yours and traces his hands up and down your body. you wrap your arms around his neck and he moves his kisses from your mouth down to your neck.
                           -time skip (a week later)-

        there were tons of kids running around, jumping on the bouncy castle and going on the slip and slide, swimming in the pool, eating by the table. you smile, seeing how successful pete and you have really become, happy that you can provide all of this for your daughter. you walk out of the house and meet pete by the grill. he was cooking hamburgers but having colson watch him so he doesn't start a fire like last time. you walk up behind pete and put your arms around his waist and rest your head on his back. "i think at this point you're just messing with him y/n." colson says half jokingly. "what do you mean?" pete looks over at him and shakes his head, smirking. "i mean that you say you want to take things slow but you're the one that's all over him." he laughs. "okay..and?" you step away from pete. "we've known each other since middle school. i feel like i know pete enough and can obviously see that he's changed." you say and colson puts his arms up like he's defending himself. "sorry, just looking out for my friend." pete rolls his eyes as he walks away. "ignore him. you do whatever you need to do to make yourself more comfortable with everything." he kisses you and turns his focus back to the grill, taking the food off and yelling at the kids that the food is ready.
        after the party you and pete are cleaning up and you stop for a moment. "pete.." he bums in response, still putting the trash and decor in the trash bag. "i think this will work out. and..and i want us to be a family again..under one roof." he looks at you with wide eyes. "seriously?" he asks and you nod. "yes." you tell him and he smiles, picking you up and kissing you. "thank you for giving me a second chance." he says and you kiss him softly, knowing that this was the right decision.

   hey! been noticing that i'm getting a lot more love on this book and just wanted to remind everyone that i do take requests! i will still use y/n so everyone can enjoy it. thank you everyone. it means a lot to me. ❤️
