Galloping across the fields to home, I thought I was going crazy. I started believing I was a witch. I told myself to snap out of it. It worked for a few minuets, when I already was at home.
"What's this about?" I asked as I came through the door, placing the letter on the ground.
"They told us about this" my mom murmured so I could just hear.
"Who told you what?" I demanded, looking for answers.
"Avery, darling, we have to talk." Mom said, "come sit down."
Now what? Am I in trouble now? "What?" I asked.
"Well-"
Something moved out of the corner of my eye "Screw off!" I yelled at my brother, watching, cutting of my mom.
"-You've been adopted" finished my mom
I was taken aback. I was both shocked and mad. I was ready to throw a tantrum, even though I was 11. My whole life was a lie. I never known my real parents, and I never probably will know about them.
"Why didn't you tell me! What a horrible mother you are!" You could hear my brother snickering in his room. I was ready to pound both of them. "You told me I got my hair from a 3rd cousin! That's probably a lie to!" I screamed, full of rage.
I couldn't take it anymore. I ran outside. I could hear my mom call after me. She said something like "you still have to pack your stuff!"
But I kept running, hard. Past a field, past two fields. I could feel the adrenalin rush through me. I ran harder. I ran until I couldn't run, then collapsed. The moon was rising higher in the sky. I could hear people calling my names and a few quads, but I was tired. I fell asleep.
I felt where I was. In my bed, at my house. I burst into tears as the memories came back. My so called guardians I used to call mom and dad were in my room. "Pack everything, Avery. Your living with your true parents now." My dad told me.
"Good riddance" I whispered under my breath, "can I take Chance?"
"No"
They left me alone. My heart felt broken. I couldn't take my only friend with me. A tear rolled down my cheek, thinking what I would do without her. I pack. My drawing things go in one box. My reading things go in another box. My pet things go into a different box, and so on until my room is full of boxes and nothing else. I was happy to leave, sad to be lied to. But I was. I heard a doorknob. Someone was here. The letter I had was sitting on the floor, I picked it up and put it into my pocket.
"Kaylee! Time to go!" I heard Brooklyn (ex mom) call.
I grabbed a box and stacked 4 more on it. I better be strong, I'm a farm girl!
My real mom was a jolly looking girl. "Why hello Avery! You have you grown since the last time I saw you!" She's got a British accent to her.
"So your my real mom?" I ask, staying at a cautious distance.
"Yes, of course I am! Why not?"
"Because I'm curious," I said icily, putting down the boxes.
"Whoa! That's heavy!" I hear whispers, "five large boxes! She is strong!"
"I hear you, show yourself!" I demand.
Behind my mom came two boys that look like me. Exactly, but with a few different features, like our hair and voice. They're British too.
"Are they my brothers?" I ask.
"You are triplets, but don't worry, their's more at home!" She answers. This is a big shock. I'm triplets!
"Well, we better be on our way, you can get the rest of your stuff and say goodbye, Avery."
I walk past my parents, keeping my eyes locked ahead of me. I was going to leave. I grab the rest of my stuff and walk out, ignoring my so called parents as I speed walk by.
"I'm ready" I announce, then walk out the door.
Outside, my note fell out of my pocket. Mom picked it up.
"Okay, good!" She said, "I was afraid you were going to be a squib!"
"Can I leave my stuff here for now? I want to do one last thing." I ignored her.
"Yes," mom answered, "do you need me for anything?"
"Actually, I do," I replied, "can you take a picture for me?"
"Sure! Should I bring the boys?"
"Okay," I stressed every letter, wondering if it would be a good idea.
"Follow me," I started heading to the stalls.
They followed me, and I lead out my horse. The boys seemed amazed. I got on her and nodded my head. Mom took a picture, and I told them to leave. I led Chance back to her stall, and I started crying. I don't cry pretty, my eyes get all swollen and red.
"I'll miss you girl, I'll miss you lots" I hear the boys eavesdropping, "and I'll miss you even more if the boys would stop eavesdropping" I hear them run off, "I-I love ** you," I said between sniffles. I gave her a big hug. I couldn't take it anymore. My legs started getting wobbly, and I had to sit down in the hay. "I love you." I repeated.
I sat for a few minutes, then cleaned up and left, like nothing happened.
Outside, I ask mom, "what's a squib?"
"Why, it's a person born into a magical family without magic, you didn't know that?"
"No, what do you mean by magical people?"
"Why your a witch, Avery. Your foster parents never told you that?"
"No!" I realized they lied to me again.
The kids were right.
