Jorōgumo (絡新婦 or じょろうぐも, Jorōgumo) is a famous spider type Yokai in Japan. It can shapeshift between three forms: a giant spider, a human woman, half woman/half spider. It transforms into a human woman to seduce and entrap humans to eat, however its reflection will show its true spider form. It can not be killed by any kind of poison.
According to legend, when a Jorogumo spider (a species of Golden Orb Weaver) turns 400 years old, it gains magical powers. Stories of Jorōgumo can be found in Edo period works. In many of these stories, Jorōgumo changes its appearance into a beautiful woman to ask a samurai to marry her, or takes the form of a young woman carrying a baby (which may turn out to be a spider's eggsack).
In other legends from the era, it was said a beautiful woman would entice a man into a quiet shack and begin to play a Biwa, a type of Japanese lute. While the victim was distracted by the sound of the instrument, she would bind him in spider silk threads in order to devour the unsuspecting person as her next meal.
They can spin silk threads strong enough to ensnare a grown man so that he cannot escape. They also have a powerful venom that can slowly weaken a man day by day, allowing the spider to savour the long and painful death her victim suffers. They can control other, lesser spiders, even employing fire-breathing spiders to burn down the homes of any who grow suspicious of them.

The Jorogumo is a shapeshifter, known for it's spider-like abilities. Primarily female, there has been no male Jorogumo to be recorded. Like Legend, they have 3 different forms; human, half human/spider, and a full spider form (however, they are the size of a normal golden orb-weaver).
A Jorogumo are a part of the 'devouring human' class of monsters - along with vampires, harpies and wendigos. They can either choose to drink the blood of a human, or they can choose to completely devour the human; either way, they must do one or the other, or else they may grow weak and die.
PHYSICAL;
A Jorogumo's human appearance, like all shapeshifters, usually depends on the person - hair, eye and skin colour can vary from person to person.
When shifting, they grow large upper fangs from their canines, small claws from their fingernails, and, similar to a Werejaguar, their skin turns a pale grey. Their two human eyes grow 4 pupils (2 per eye), and these glow a bright white.
