Being Nyla

I stayed silent and listened to the string of cuss words that left his mouth. He had stopped banging and decided to kick the door instead. I slowly walked away and went back into the front room. I shut the curtains and turned off any lights that were on.

He was still kicking the front door and it was bound to drop off of its hinges any time soon. I made my way to my room and shut the door hoping that it would block out the noise. I sat down on my bed and huffed. The kicking stopped. I got off the bed and crawled over to the windows, peeking to see where Terrell was. Just as I was about to get up and walk over to my draw, a massive brick smashed into the window, missing my head by just a bit.

"NYLA MAN! OPEN THE DOOR PLEASE!" He begged

"Leave me alone you crazy bastard," I said, instantly covering my mouth with my hands.

"Nyla, are you mad? I can hear you y'know. Watch me and you when I come up there." Terrell shouted and I heard him kick the door again

"Shit," I whispered

A buzzing noise caught my attention. Someone was calling me and the phone was on silent which made it even worse because it'd be harder for me to find it. I scrambled over to the draw and searched for my phone, flinging my clothes all over the place. The phone continued ringing. I spotted the rose gold phone across the room and rapidly picked it up whilst answering without looking at the caller ID.

"Nyla is everything ok? I can hear loads of shouting, do you want me to come over?" my neighbour, Jade, asked

I started looking for things that I could protect myself with and a shard of glass came into view. I picked it up and stared at it for a while.

"OI! I suggest that you leave her alone and start making your way back home. GO HOME YOU PRICK!" Jade shouted at Terrell

It went quiet.

My phone vibrated in my hand and I saw two text messages. One from Jade and another from Terrell.

I could feel my eyes stinging and tiny droplets of water flow down my cheeks. Soon I was lying down in my bed with tears falling out of my eyes. I pulled the covers over my head and silently sobbed.
