Lee
Last night shouldn't have happened.
I didn't want her of all people to see me like that. I mean, I did pick on her a lot when we were kids, but that was because I liked her. I didn't know how to say it, and I didn't want my friends to get on me about it, so I picked on her.
When she first moved on our block, I always thought she was pretty cute. She was small, had the cutest accent that many didn't understand, and she always made sure her uniform was perfect. My siblings picked on me about it a few times, and I'd get ticked off about it.
I wouldn't mind it too much now.
That night I kissed her and she didn't kiss back, I was hurt, not gonna lie. So, I told everyone she tried to kiss me. But when she moved away, I was sad.
Seeing her now, all grown up, still as snarky as ever, and admittedly sexy, I can't help but feel like a schoolboy in love.
Yes, I'm in love with her and I have been for a while. When I recognized her that day, my heart was beating really fast. I played it off and went back into the old routine of picking on her.
Her reaction was more irritable than I last remembered. I wanted to be on good terms with her so I could possibly pursue something more than friendship. But I didn't wanna make it obvious I have feelings for her.
In a way, I'm glad I knocked on her door last night. Even though the circumstance brought back memories I wish I didn't have.
"So, that Jade girl?" Jesse asks while he spots me on the bench. "What about her?" I grunt as I push the weight from my chest. "She's pretty cute. Is she single?"
"As far as I know," I say indifferently. "But she's off limits, mate." He scoffs, "Off limits? You called dibs or some shit?" I look up at the hazel eyed man, "No, because women aren't something to objectify."
"Do you like her or something?" I stay silent, getting to 40 before setting the bar up and sitting up. "If you wanna talk to her," I grab my small towel and wiped sweat from my forehead. "Go on ahead."
"Wait, really?" He asked in surprise and I nod with a hum.
"If you actually like her then I'll back off," he says as we switch places. "It's cool, mate. Knock yourself out."
After another hour of working out, Jesse went back home while I went for a shower. I then facepalm when I remembered something, more like forgot something.
I left my phone in Jade's flat.
I don't wanna go over there all sweaty and shit. But I can't shower after working out without music.
I scratch the back of my damp head before reluctantly knocking on the door. I wait for a few moments, not getting an answer. I knock again, a bit harder this time.
"Comin'!" I couldn't contain my smile at how adorable she sounded. The swings open, revealing my dream girl in an oversized Diana Ross T-shirt and striped pajama pants. Her hair is tied up in a ponytail with a few strands framing her perfect face and her black framed glasses perched on her nose.
"Hey, Lee," she says easily without an eye roll or any type of hostility. That alone made me wanna smile like an idiot.
"Hey, I think I left my phone here?" She nods, "Hold on." She leaves the door opened and I could smell Lush Lavender permeating the living space.
The scent gives me this kind of security that I didn't know I needed. It's almost therapeutic.
Jade comes back with my phone, now fully charged and loaded with different notifications. "That thing's been goin' off all mornin'," she says while handing it to me. I take it with a gracious smile, "Thanks. See you later." I turn to go back to my flat when she calls my name.
