"Maura, wake up." Jane caressed Maura's shoulder gently, trying to wake her up without startling her. It was time to get up.
"Jane?" Maura opened her eyes and looked at her. Then she looked around the room, seeming a little confused.
"Why am I here? I don't recall coming at your place."
"Don't you remember anything from last night?" Jane asked, feeling taken aback.
"No," Maura retorted simply.
"How you got here and what you did?" Jane asked again, feeling a bit worried for Maura's answer. She was afraid that Maura wouldn't remember some things from the previous night - true, but to forget the whole night was something entirely different.
"I don't remember anything, Jane. Why? Did I behave inappropriately? Did I treat you bad or insulted you, Jane? I am terribly sorry if that's the case."
"You don't remember anything, Maura? Not even a single word you said last night? Or what you did? And how you got here in the first place?"
"No, Jane, I am so sorry."
"And why would you remember!? Nothing important happened." Jane muttered to herself and got up from the bed. She turned around, biting hard her lower lip, swallowing back her tears. Of course Maura didn't remember. Why would she?! She probably confesses her love to anyone while she's drunk. And Jane thought she really meant it. But Maura didn't remember so it wasn't important for her. Jane felt so stupid for believing something like that could really happen. She felt like a fool for wanting so badly Maura's confession from the previous night to be true, and not just a drunk jibber-jabber. Jane had really believed her, but it was all just meaningless words for Maura that she doesn't even remember. It was sad, but Jane didn't have the courage to remind Maura about what she has said the previous night. She turned around again and looked at Maura.
"Maura, why are you scratching?" Jane noticed that Maura seemed really nervous, like she was hiding something from her, and was constantly scratching her neck, but she abruptly stopped when Jane asked her.
"Oh, it's probably some allergy from the alcohol."
"Wow! That was fast! You drink during the previous night but you get a rash on the next day. That totally makes sense." Jane said sarcastically. "Do you remember anything from last night, Maura?" Jane asked again, suspicious that Maura was hiding the truth from her.
"No," Maura said quickly. "I already told you, Jane."
"You're lying."
"I am not lying."
"Now you'll get a rash for lying that you are not lying."
"What?" Maura asked, confused.
Jane thought about it for a few seconds. She thought that it was possible for Maura not to remember some things from the previous night but to forget the whole of it was very unlikely. She wanted to help Maura remember the things she said to her the previous night. Jane remembered Maura's words that she'd make her beg so she thought that maybe Maura would remember the previous night if she said something like that because it would bring back some memories.
"Don't make me beg you, Maura. And be at your mercy. Just say that you remember."
"I can't say something that is not true, Jane."
Jane thought of another option. She had to say something to provoke her and make Maura confess that she remembers. Or
"So you don't remember that we had sex last night?" Jane asked casually, trying to sound convinced.
