Lights

You slide off the creatures back and land lightly, The Doctor doing the same moments after. By now the sky has turned from a rose pink to a deeper magenta, and it was beautiful.

You find the lights have been strung in the trees, all different colours, some lanterns and some flame, all so utterly unique. Ryan finds a fallen one and helps Yaz place it back in the tree, Graham wandering off to a host of smaller ones in a bush.

You spot a great white canopy though the trees and arrive in a lit up octagonal overhang. You spin in a circle, unaware you were being watched.

"You like it then?"

You start and look at The Doctor, joining you but keeping a considerate distance.

"Yes, it's so beautiful"

She smiles, flicking one of the lights as it casts pinkish shadows on her face. She looks... ethereal. You blush and look away.

"You're allowed to have thoughts you know"

"No, I'm really not" you mutter under your breath.

"Yes you are" she says. You didn't realise she could hear you.

She surveys you sadly before speaking next.

"(Y/n) I don't really know much about it you, but from what I've seen you are a fraction of the person you could be. And it saddens me. You are strong, and beautiful and clever. And I don't think you see it yet"

"I've made mistakes"

"Haven't we all?"

"He's the only one who would take me in"

"But it doesn't have to be that way. You could be free to live and do whatever you wanted"

You turn to see her pleading face.

"Why do you care?" You ask suspiciously.

"Because it's what I do"

"Then stop"

She steps closer but you don't back away. She smiles and steps again. Once more and now she is right in front of you. But you know you aren't scared, and you certainly won't back away.

"I can't"

She lifts her hand and you stare at it in fear. Slowly, so slowly, she reaches forward and tucks your hair behind your ear. You willingly close your eyes and yous sense her smile.

"Is this ok?"

You swallow and nod, trying to ignore the tingles that have erupted from your scalp to the ends of your hair.

"Ok" she whispers, stroking your hair as you relax into her touch. Surely we wouldn't still hurt you...? But she could. Your eye fly open and you take a step back.

"Easy. (Y/n) you're safe, you always will be with me" she mutters before turning and walking away, taking the warmth and tingles with her and leaving you in the dark.
