That night...
I don't know what urged me to, but I couldn't sleep and I ended up looking at my phone at missing-children articles. Why am I doing this to myself? A knock on my room door startled me, and I threw my phone on the side of the bed. The door opened, and Benjamin came walking in.
"Hey, Mr. Woods." I said, pretending like he had woken me up. "Hey Zylina, I'm sorry if I woke you up." he apologized. "No, no, it's fine. Is everything okay?" I asked. He gestured to the light and I nodded preparing my eyes for the bright light.
Once the light turned on, Mr. Woods came over to me and sat next to me on the bed, and I spotted some papers in his hands. "Everything's okay, but I do need to explain some things to you." he told me. I became curious, and I continued to listen to his words.
"Zylina, when we were at the hospital, they asked us about you. They couldn't find you in any file, because the government doesn't know you exist because of the Organization you and Rory are trying to expose." he explained.
"Oh, um, what did you tell them?" I asked, my fingers running through my brown hair. Benjamin lifted the papers, and said, "Sarah and I tried looking into your medical records." That got me interested right away, and I leaned closer to get more information. "We could find only a little about you Zylina. Zylina is your real name but there is no mention of your last name or even your parents' names." he told me.
I looked down at my feet; why was there so little information about my past? "Wh...What about my date of birth?" I asked, lifting my eyes to try to peek at the papers. Benjamin lowered my papers, and I saw the birth date; I was only celebrating my birthday a couple days earlier than my actual birthday.
"So, we still don't know what happened to my parents." I sighed. Benjamin patted my back, and said, "We'll find them, Zylina. Rory didn't know about us and he still found us." I shrugged, my eyes still looking down at my feet. "Goodnight, Zylina." he said, before leaving the room; he left the papers on the side table next to my bed, though.
I looked at my phone again and something popped up; a new missing children article. I scrolled and skimmed through the article only looking for the important details; I found out that it was a 4 year-old girl named Susie and the kidnapping took place in the state of West Virginia, in the town of Princeton.
I looked at the clock on the side bed; 10:50. I could still make it to the bus station. I sat up in my bed and thought about the decision I was about to make; should I leave Benjamin, Sarah, and....Rory, or should I stay until Rory wakes up? I finally made my choice that sooner would be better.
I got off the bed, and grabbed my bag: I packed some clothes, my hair brush, toothbrush, one of the books, and my wallet. After zipping my bag, I went on my phone and looked up where the nearest bus station is. After finding the address of the bus station I put on a dark hoodie, and snuck out into the living area; there I put my hair into a high ponytail to keep it out of my face.
Quietly I snuck passed Benjamin's and Sarah's room, opened the door, and traveled into the hallway. After making sure the door was closed, I headed to the nearest exit and ventured into the dark streets where my only source of light was a couple of lamp posts.
