Liam's POV
"Mr Payne, someone's here to see you. Shall I send him up?" The girl whose name I couldn't remember entered my office. I wasn't very fond of her, mainly because she didn't understand the ropes yet, but also because she was young and squealy, I was beginning to regret hiring her. To be honest, it was Louis who'd asked me to, saying something about how I needed to give people a chance and stuff.
So I nodded at the girl- Emma!- and shooed her away; I enjoyed my lunch break alone, with no interruptions, the rest of my crew knew that. Well, the rest of them did after I fired the new kid for playing that chocolate breasts prank on me. I was sure the rest of them were tiptoeing around the man who nobody wanted to get in the wrong side of. Which was weird; I'm actually a pretty nice guy.
It was quite funny, actually. I actually knew who was coming up and why, I'd been very careful to act smooth so I'd see him again. So when the blonde, blue eyed man entered my room, I grinned at him instead of acting surprised. He had my black jacket in his arm, his pearly blue eyes narrowed. I had to admit, I'd played him, because I didn't like being told no by anyone. I still wanted that kiss.
"Well, it's a surprise to see you here, Niall," I teased, standing up from my chair and walking towards him. He was a head shorter than me; he had to look up to catch my eye contact. It was adorable, I had to admit. He tried to act tough and independent, but on the inside, he was just a small boy. Or at least that's what I imagined him as,
He wasn't taking any bullshit, though. "Jesus Christ- Don't you understand the concept of no? We can't date. I have to think about my family here." He shook his head and gave me an evil glare, like he was convincing himself I was bad.
"Oh, I understand perfectly, Niall," I nodded. "That doesn't mean I liked it. We do have some unfinished business, and being a businessman myself, I don't like leaving things incomplete." I winked at him, impressed with my metaphorical language.
He, however, wasn't impressed. "I'm sorry, but I'm not the guy for you. I just don't see this going anywhere, so I'm going to leave now. Thanks for the jacket, but I won't be needing this anymore." He handed me back my blazer and stepped back, right to the door.
I chuckled and threw it to my desk, before walking forward. I continued walking until he was pressed right against the door, myself pushed up against him. I noticed his quick breathing, but he made no effort to push me back. He just stood there, his arms at his side and his mouth parted. I could smell the minty fragrance oozing off of his tongue; it was mouthwatering.
"Perhaps I'm a bossy motherfucker," I began, still smirking, "But I don't like being told no, and quite frankly, I would love to kiss you."
He shook his head. "Think of your son, Liam..."
"Jonah-Luca doesn't care, like I've said." I pointed out, raising my eyebrows. "But, I'm not going to sexually assault you, so I want your permission to devour my lips to yours. Now, I want you to think about what you're saying before you make a decision. But I don't have all day, my lunch break only lasts until one."
It took him a whole to answer. "No, I don't want you to kiss me." I was taken aback by his soft yet harsh words. I felt my heart begin pounding faster and harder in my chest, thrashing against my rib cage like an innocent prisoner locked inside jail. It wasn't too much of the rejection which caused this, but more so the fact this had never happened before. People usually begged for me to kiss them. I wasn't used to people pushing me away.
"Unlike you, Liam, my son means the world to me." He spoke with an attempt at confidence, but the tone was too shaky to be tough. But I liked the way he tried, and didn't give up, not like I did anyway. He was different, new, and I liked it.
