"Target is a mobile satellite launch platform, the Lemurian Star. They were sending up their last payload when pirates took them, 93 minutes ago."Brooklyn looked up from where she was adjusting the strap of her gloves onto her hands with her teeth, pulling them tight to avoid them slipping off. She was sitting a little way off, gearing up with Nathan, who was ready, standing next to her in his protective vest.
"Any demands?" Asked Steve, watching the screen that Rumlow was pointing at, dragging pictures and information around to focus them.
"Billion and a half." Replied Rumlow, making Brooklyn grimace. She shared a glance with her red-haired partner, who's face was impassive, blank. But she caught the look in his eyes.
This was going to be difficult.
"Why so steep?" Asked Steve, warily.
"Because it's S.H.I.E.L.D." Rumlow answered, barely an explanation, but one that must have made sense as realisation washed over Steve's features, before disappointment did.
"So it's not 'off course', its trespassing." He said to Natasha, looking over to her for confirmation.
"I'm sure they have a good reason." Natasha muttered back, still watching the screen, almost a if she was unable to look Steve in the eye.
Nathan crossed his arms over his chest.
"You know, I'm getting a little tired of being Fury's janitor." Steve answered back in a bored tone, still watching Natasha.
"Relax," Natasha glanced over to him for a second, still muttering her word while biting her nail, "It's not that complicated."
Steve turned his focus back on Rumlow who was watching the two silently, and also the two younger Agents who were watching him in the way that made him feel like a mouse trapped under a cat's paw.
"How many pirates?" Steve asked Rumlow, who looked slightly unsure, his eyes glancing between the Super-Soldier and the young girl sitting a little way off behind them. Steve didn't need to turn to understand who he kept looking over to, and his face hardened.
"25. Top mercs led by this guy," Rumlow explained slowly, clearing his throat, "Georges Batroc. Ex-DGSE, Action Division. He's at the top of Interpol's Red Notice. Before the French demobilized him, he had 36 kill missions. This guy's got a rep for maximum casualties."
"Hostages?" Nathan called over, grabbing the attention of a couple Agents that did a double take, having forgotten the two children. Natasha smirked as Rumlow answered, hesitating.
"Mostly techs. One officer. Jasper Sitwell," Rumlow pulled up a picture of a Man wearing a smart suit and metal-rimmed rectangular glasses, "They're in the galley."
"What's Sitwell doing on a launch ship?" Brooklyn murmured to Nathan, who let out a loose breath through his nose.
"All right," Steve made sure the strap of his Shield was secure as he began barking out orders to the rest of the S.T.R.I.K.E force crowded around the screen, "I'm gonna sweep the deck and find Batroc. Nat, you kill the engines and wait for instructions," He turned to Nathan and Brooklyn, who was now flexing her newly strapped hands, standing up next to Nathan, "Kids, go with Natasha. You're not to engage unless you're at risk, lay low and help her where she needs you, got it?"
