Today was the day. I got up at 6 am, while Tom was still sleeping. He got the day off, after a harsh case, and he didn't feel so good about work, since Dany Skeller died, he didn't have that spark for police work as he used to, and the last case didn't help either. I ate breakfast, got ready and gave Tom a kiss goodbye before I went back to work wearing a pale purple tailor.

I drove to the ranch and pulled into the employée's parking lot. The second I entered I saw George looking the same as always : charismatic and elegant. "Hey George" I said happily. "Kris!" he said, taking me into an embrace, "It feels good to have you back" he said with enthusiasm. "It feels good to come back, was it okay when I wasn't here?" I asked, embarrassed. "It was okay, besides it wasn't your fault so don't worry" he said with a reassuring smile. "Oh and Michael is waiting for you in your office. "Thank you" I said kindly.

"Hey Kris" Michael greeted with a small smile. "Hey Mike" I said, giving him back his smile, taking a seat by my desk. "How have you been ?" He asked, crossing his legs. "Good, good" I answered with a shrug and a smile. "Tell me more!" he said excitedly. "I moved in with Tom and we've been doing a lot of things together" I said, my head resting on my hand, thinking of the cases. "That's interesting" said Michael with a smirk. I just smiled, I couldn't tell him, police secret. "And you, How was the tour ?" I asked, slightly changing the subject to avoid any questions. "Amazing, the best tour I've probably made" he said proudly. "Awesome!" I said happily.

"I don't want to break the mood but can we talk, seriously" I said, as my smile faded. "Uh yeah" he said, sitting correctly. "What happened that day Mike? I mean I messed up literally, but I fixed it, the best that I could, I apologized...Please tell me what happened?" I asked with a sigh, running a hand in my hair. "About that...." he said embarrassed, taking a pause and breathed heavily. "I was stressed out and I acted like a jerk, I admit..." he said looking down. "Maybe, but even the more stressed you could be you never reacted like that... I don't understand..." I said, looking at him. "I know, but the meds and the Joshua thing, it gets me out of my mind...I'm sorry..." he said with puppy dog eyes. "It's okay...I understand better" I said, bending to pat his shoulder.

Since this conversation a week passed and, to be honest, I was bored. Not because of Michael and stuff. But the work felt flat... I missed the cases, going to the chapel, have a new folder and get to the next cover... I really missed it. I sighed, taking a piece of paper and a pen. I wrote a few lines on it before folding it in two, holding back the tears that wanted to roll down my cheeks.

I got up and softly knocked on Michael's bedroom door. "Come in" I heard him. I slowly pushed the door and entered in heavy footsteps. "Kris, come sit next to me" he said with a wide smile , patting an empty spot next to him on his bed. I flashed a smile and took place next to him on a black silk blanket. "What is it? you don't look so good" he asked with concern. "I have to tell you something, it's important" I said seriously, swallowing my tears. "Okay, is it about Tom you had a fight or something ?" he asked. I shook my heand and gave him the piece of paper, unable to talk.

He took the paper out of my hand, unure, and cleared his throat before reading it out loud:

"Dear Michael,

I'm sorry that I can't tell you with words, what you're about to read. During my suspension, I told you I 've been doing a lot of things with Tom. Which is true.

I've been working with him, doing police work, I can't tell more about it but this is what I have been doing.

During this time, I really enjoyed it . And I got a proposition for being a police officer, which I still didn't give an answer yet...

At first it was a complicated choice, I didn't know what to do. I came back here to the original job. But I realized that I missed going on the field and catching the criminals.

I made my choice, and I am sorry to tell you that I quit. You are my best friend and will always remain.

Love, Kris"

"Really?" he asked sadly, a tear rolling out on his cheek. "Yes Michael, I'm sorry" I said, not daring to look at him. "No don't be, you have the right, it's just that I'm going to miss you" he said wiping his tears. I bit my lower lip not to cry and hugged him tight, so did he. "Oh Mike, I'm going to miss you too buddy" I said sadly. "Have fun and be carefull" he said, patting my back.

I got up, whipping a tear and walked to the door. "Hey Kris, call me or come whenever you want" he said with a wide smile. "I will, same goes for you Mike" I said with a wink. I picked my stuff and drove back to the appartement.

Tom was already back, he was reading the newspaper, looking demotivated. I discreetly got behind him, passing by the kitchen and wrapped my arms around him. I actually felt relieved, after talking to Michael. "Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked then disposed of a kiss on his soft hair. "Oh good" he said with a shrug not facing me. "You know you can tell me anything" I said, deposing a kiss on his cheek. "You already know" he sighed. "Tom.." I said with compassion, sitting on his lap. He dropped the newspaper and wrapped his arms around me. "Maybe I have something that can make you smile" I said, taking his head in between my hands. "You already make me smile" he said, flashing a smile.

"You're so cute" I said, blushing, I guess I was looking like a tomato. He arranged a strand of my hair behind my ear and rested his hand on my cheek. "But seriously Tom, I really have to tell you something" I said with a chuckle. "Go ahead" he said softly, his eyes, lost in mine. "I made my choice" I said right in his eyes with a soft look, as well. "What is it?" he asked on low voice, his lips slowly curving into a large smile. "I want to go to the academy, and work at the chapel with you" I said with an uncontrollable smile. His eyes widened "Shit Kris ! This is amazing!" he said excitedly and squeezed me tight. "But are you sure ? because, as you know, it's very dangerous" he said. "Yes I am, this is what I want" I said with confidence. "All right then, Come on, I'll take you to the chapel to give Fuller your answer directly" he said with a smile.

Surprisingly, when we stepped in there was no one except, Sal fixing a heater. "Yo blowfish" said Tom happily. "Hey Hanson ! Kris, it's been a while" he said, waving at us with his good energy. "Oh come on Sal it just been a little more than a week" I said rolling my eyes playfully. "Is Fuller here ?" asked Tom, not decided to let go of my hand he held, since we walked in. "No sorry Hanson you just missed him, he left about 10 minutes ago" Answered Sal, scratching the back of his head with his wrench. "Shit, did he say by any chance where he went?" Asked Tom. "His home I guess" he said unsure. "Okay thanks Blowfish" said Tom and we left the place, in a rush.

"Tom, we can tell him tomorrow, I go with you and-" I started but he cut me off, his eyes focused on the road. "We can't baby, I mean it's a rare offer from the academy and since you got your answer we better tell Fuller right now, trust me" he said with a smile. "Rare?" I asked, surprised. "Yeah, They never did this before, or not that I'm aware of" he said. "Oh, okay" I said, nodding. "Here we are, Fuller's house" he said, pulling in the parking lot.

Tom gently knocked at the door and a few seconds later, Fuller opened up. "Kris, Hanson please come on in, what can I do for you?" asked the Captain as we entered his house and followed him to the living room. "I have to talk to you" I said with a smile. "Uh, sure" he said, inviting to sit on his light green leather sofa with a gesture.

"I finally took my decision and I want to join the academy'' I announced. "That's great news, Kris !" he said happily. "At that time the academy's office is close, I'll call them at 8 on the dot to tell them, come at the chapel with Hanson tomorrow so I could inform you on everything" he said wisely, crossing his legs.
