Later, alone in Wanda's room, in the safety of darkness, I finally unfold the paper from Romanoff. It holds a phone number and nothing more.

Frowning, I pull out the mobile Clint gave me when I first moved in with him and call the number.

On the second ring, a woman's voice says, "They got caught, didn't they?"

"Who is this?" I ask.

"Sharon Carter. You're the Maximoff boy, aren't you?"

Carter. Something about that name rings a bell, but I can't quite reach it, so I put it aside for now. "Yeah. Romanoff gave me this number. Any idea why?"

"She was the only one who knew this number. I set it up for emergencies when SHIELD fell. And I gather by the fact that she gave it to you that you switched sides?"

"Yeah. We both did."

"I suspected she would. She's too sensible not to."

I want to ask, And I'm not? But I manage to stop myself. That's not what's important right now. "I'm sorry, how does this number help me got my sister out?"

"I can get you what you need, and you won't get help like this anywhere else."

Something about that seems suspicious to me. "Great. So why haven't you done anything about it before?"

"Because I don't have access to any of that kind of information. I'm not an Avenger, so I don't get any of the Avenger intel. I needed a contact who does. You."

That still doesn't sound quite right. "Why didn't Romanoff call you sooner?"

"I assume she was working on going undercover. That doesn't just happen overnight, you know."

"How do you-"

"I was a SHIELD agent. Level 6. Now, do you want to help your sister, or are we going to stand around asking questions all night?"

That gets my attention. "What do I need to do?"

"Where's Cap? Was he caught too?"

"No, he and Barnes got away. Why?"

"Do you know where they are?"

"No. Why?"

"Do you know where the others are being held?"

I try to think back. There was a name in the corner of the screen when I was watching Wanda. "Maybe the Boat? Or the Island?"

"The Raft?"

"Yeah, that was it."

Carter swears.

"Why is that bad?"

"It makes our job a lot harder," she agrees. "Okay, sit tight, we'll get your sister out."

"No, I want to help!"

"We've got this handled, kid. Just stay out of the way."

"But that's my sister!" I insist.

"I said stay out of the way!"

The line clicks dead.

I say some words in Sokovian that would have had my mother faint.

"Fine then," I grumble. "If they won't let me help, I'll get her out myself."

I run out of the room, slowing the world around me. I reach the hangar to find a team of soldiers getting into a quinjet. I dash in and set time back to normal. Instantly, half a dozen guns are trained on me.
