Soda's POV
Steve was outside in the garage fixing up cars like normal. It was a slow day at the DX, boring even. The group of girls hadn't come today, and Steve had been busy all day. A normal thing sure, but still not fun. I was lonely to say the least.
It took another twenty minutes for Steve to come back in. He was covered in grease, which wasn't anything new. Grease and sweat, and not because it was warm out, but because he worked way too hard most of the time. I knew it was only because of his dad kicking him out all the time, but I still didn't like seeing how stressed out it made him. He didn't deserve that in the slightest.
"I'm done now Soda. We can close up shop," he told me. His voice was shakey for some reason, but I didn't bother to ask. I just let it go and grabbed the keys.
After the doors were locked, Steve and I started walking to Steve's newly built car. He built it himself from scratch, just like he could do for everyone else in town if he wanted to. It was a pretty nice car, not old or new really, just sitting right in the middle.
Steve got me home in one piece just like always. That's how things worked. He drives, I sit and tell him what was going on inside the DX while he was in the garage.
It was my turn to cook dinner tonight, as sad as everyone thought that was, and it was nice having no one else there while I cooked. Well, no one until Steve came back in. I'd expected him to say that he'd left something here, but he wrapped his arms around me instead. And I didn't mind at all. It was just Steve after all.A/N: Short? Yes. Fluffy? Also yes.
