*Mia's P.O.V*
I watch Carlisle and Esme, feeling a lot of nervousness right now. It was like nervousness had crammed itself into my brain and taken up the entire space inside it. It made me very fidgety, I didn't like how nervousness made me feel. It was my least favorite emotion.
"Ah Mia..." Carlisle says my name, making me flinch. I wasn't used to being called my name, especially not by a man. He said my name so gently though, like it was glass and would break if he said it too loud. It probably would have if he said it too loud, I hated loud things.
"Our children will be home soon, something I'm sure you won't be comfortable with," Carlisle says, making me nod in agreement quickly as I stand up. My journal slips out from under my shirt, hitting the ground with a loud noise. I flinch back before crouching down, trying to hurriedly pick it up.
"Mia," Esme says my name, making me freeze. I hadn't told her my name, she wasn't supposed to know it! She wasn't supposed to be able to say it! I watch as she comes around the table, carefully picking up the journal and offering it to me.
I hesitantly take it, sinking back with it as I keep it tucked against my chest. It's mine, I couldn't let anyone see it. It held all my secrets in it and I couldn't just let people know them. If they knew my secrets then they knew me and I didn't even know me so they couldn't know me.
"Mia, I would really like it if you would stay here. It's still storming and your clothes are still being washed. If you are so nervous about meeting anyone else, you are more than welcome to hide away in Carlisle and I's bedroom. No one else would see you nor would they interact with you," Esme suggests. I frown at that offer, wondering if she's telling the truth.
"Mia, I promise you that you will be safe if you stay here. You have my word," Carlisle says as he moves from his seat, crouching down in front of me. I furrow my brows, nodding my head slightly after a moment as fear runs through me.
"What if you're lying?" I ask quietly.
"We have a window, you can easily escape through that if we are lying to you," Carlisle offers me his hand, trying to pull me up when I accept it. I sniffle slightly, still a little scared but willing to take a small chance. He leads me upstairs, leading me down the hallway. He opens the door, letting me look around.
Their room was actually rather nice, it was rather big and cozy, something I enjoyed a lot. It didn't seem dangerous, at least not in my mind at the moment. So I carefully enter the room after Carlisle, my eyes on the window that is slightly cracked open. I can smell the rain, hearing it when I focus on listening. I slink down onto the floor, looking around the room.
"You can sit on the bed if you prefer Mia," Carlisle says, making me furrow my brows slightly as I look at him. I shake my bed, deciding my spot on the floor close to the window, the spot that allows me to keep an eye on the door, is the best spot.
"Alright, if you're more comfortable with sitting on the floor then that is your choice little bat," Carlisle says, making me nod my head.
"If you want, there are plenty of books that are available for you to read," Carlisle offers, making me look around to see that there is in fact a bookcase that has plenty of books on it. I inch towards them, scooting slightly closer to the bookcase when I think Carlisle isn't looking. I read the titles of the books, murmuring to myself. I carefully grab one from the bookcase, deciding to look at the book full of human food.
I flinch when the door shuts, realizing that Carlisle had left at one point and now Esme was in here. I squirm away, bowing my head with a small frown on my lips. I whine softly, rubbing at my eyes to get used to looking at her. I had focused on looking at the book for so long that my eyes kind of hurt.
"Here," Esme says, offering a teddy bear to me. I frown in confusion, wondering why she was holding it out to me.
"What?" I ask in confusion, a frown on my lips.
"It's for you, I thought you might enjoy it," Esme says. It's a blue teddy bear, one with constellations on it. I hesitantly reach out for it, taking it from her after a moment. I tuck it against my chest, smiling slightly as I press a kiss to it's head when Esme isn't looking directly at me.
"Why?" I ask, thankful for the toy but wondering what the cost would be. She was letting me hide away in her room and she had given me a toy, it must be some kind of trick. She must want something from me. I didn't have much but I would give her what I had if she asked.
"Because Carlisle told me that you like blue and I do enjoy giving our new friends gifts," Esme says, making me nod my head slightly after a moment. I wasn't sure that I believed her but I did have no choice but to trust her.
"He's cute, thank you," I whisper, hugging my teddy bear close to my chest. He was my best friend at the moment, my only one really. Esme had said we were friends but that wasn't really true. We didn't really know each other, we couldn't be friends. I furrow my brows, thinking of her words when I take a deep breath. My nose is filled with so many scents it makes me sneeze. There were too many people here, I could smell too many of them. I flinch when I feel Esme's arms wrap around me, running a hand soothingly down my back when I panic against the overwhelming feelings, wanting to run and hide. She has the door shut, holding me against her as I hold the teddy bear close, whining slightly.
