*Mia's P.O.V*
It was hard to walk and drink I discovered. I only didn't run into things because Carlisle was holding my elbow and gently leading me along. I smile slightly as he pulls out a chair for me. I hesitantly sit down, playing with the buttons at the bottom of the shirt after I set the cup down on the counter.
"I'm sure that you're nervous but it's okay, you are safe here," Carlisle tries to reassure me, sitting down across from me. I shrug my shoulders, my journal still under the shirt I'm wearing. It's cool against my skin, or at least it normally feels that way. Right now it kind of feels warm.
"I don't exactly have the best memories of other vampires. It's...uncomfortable to trust other vampires since the last one I trusted kind of... did this," I gesture to myself, making Carlisle nod his head.
"I can't blame you for being cautious," Carlisle says as he nods his head as he purses his lips in thought.
"Can I ask more about you, little bat? You've kept many things about yourself secret and I would like to get to know you more," he requests.
"What do you want to know?" I ask, rubbing my hands together as I try to avoid looking him in the eyes. I didn't mind looking him in the eyes every other time but telling people about myself always made me nervous.
"Your favorite color?" Carlisle asks, making me crinkle my brows in thought. I tilt my head as I consider his question.
"I don't know...it's been a long time since I've been asked that question and it's not one that I think about often," I answer honestly as I undo the bottom button on the shirt and redo it while I think.
"Take your time," Carlisle says with a soft smile on his lips.
"My favorite color is the pinkish color that the sky turns right before the sun sets," Carlisle offers, making me smile slightly.
"Blue....I like blue," I say honestly, not only because it's the color of the shirt that I'm wearing but maybe also because it's the color that I see Carlisle wearing a lot. Blue was definitely a color I liked I decided.
"Blue is a pretty color, it suits you. Much more than it suits me. Whenever I wear it people tend to just revert to calling me Dr. Carlisle, even Esme does it," Carlisle says, making me smile slightly. That sounded funny.
"Your smile is very pretty little bat," Carlisle says, making me duck my head as I open my mouth. I'm about to close it but I force myself to speak after a moment.
"...Mia," I say, looking up at Carlisle through my eyelashes.
"What?" Carlisle asks, which I wish he didn't since it makes me not want to speak again. Why couldn't he just understand what I was saying when I first said it?
"My name is Mia," I inform him, my fingers twisting together nervously.
"That's a pretty name. I'm glad I finally know your name, it will make it so much easier to keep an eye on you, little bat," Carlisle says. I feel a sense of warmth from the fact he's still using the nickname he gave me. I was kind of worried he would stop now that he knew my name.
"You don't have to keep an eye on me Mr. Carlisle. I can take care of myself," I say, feeling the need to reassure him so that he doesn't think I'm a child that he needs to keep an eye on.
"You don't need to call me Mr. Carlisle, just Carlisle is fine. And I don't have to keep an eye on you but I would like to keep an eye on you because I have grown to care for you. And I would hate for anything to happen to you. You intrigue me little bat," Carlisle informs me, making me tilt my head.
"How come I intrigue you?" I ask after a moment, making Carlisle chuckle.
"Because I've never met a vampire so shy and one that seems to not trust me so much," Carlisle says, making me duck my head. I did trust him, at least a little bit. Or else I would have never entered his really big home where his wife was. I wouldn't have entered his house at all if I didn't trust him, and I would have never even been in the same room as Esme normally but she seemed nice enough.
"I do trust you, a little bit. Like a lot more than I trust other people. I mean it's still only a little bit but you know my name! No one else knows that," I inform Carlisle, making him smile slightly. I flush as I realize I've been rambling and he probably wants me to shut up.
"I'm glad I have a little bit of your trust. My daughter Alice is also hesitant to trust people sometimes. Or at least she was when I first met her. She's gotten better with trusting people, and herself, to make good decisions. I think you've made a good one, by allowing yourself to trust me. Even if it's only a little bit," Carlisle says.
"A little more than a little bit," I finally agree, swinging my legs back and forth slightly. I liked this chair, my legs didn't even reach the floor so I could freely swing my legs back and forth without my feet touching the floor.
"Would you like more blood?" Carlisle offers, making me perk up at the offer as I look at my cup. I still had some blood but I wanted more if he was offering it.
"I'll take that as a yes," Carlisle chuckles as he gets up, taking my cup. I frown at that, watching him closely as he goes to fill it up. I barely even notice when Esme enters the room, tensing up when she walks past me to him. I watch her nervously, tensed and ready to run as she whispered to him. What could they be talking about?
