Chapter Thirty: Premature Ventricular Contractions
“I’m so sorry!” I heard Jaya say semi loudly from the hall.
She walks into our office, closing the door behind her with a grin plastered on her face.
“Let me guess, Kat and Brad?” I asked, a similar smile making its way to my face.
“Yeah.” She says, her eyes suddenly going wide. “It. Was. Perfect.”
“Please, do tell me.” I said, leaning back in my chair.
If there’s something that you should know, it’s that Neal, Armando, Jaya and I had gone on “Mission Super Awkward”, aka where we made things awkward for everyone, especially Brad and Kat. It had been four months since he had “accidentally” called Kat beautiful.
“Right, accidentally.”I said, raising my eyebrows at Kat.
She had just finished explaining what had gone down between her and Brad.
“I swear, he didn’t mean it.” She mumbled, her cheeks faintly turning pink.
I looked at Jaya and she looked at me.
We were sooooo not letting this go.
Fast forward four months, and all hell had broken loose in the radiology department. Everyone thinks that it is totally okay for it to make everyone else feel awkward. Even Dr. Fordham was in on this!
To begin with, Neal couldn’t be seen in my office without anyone insinuating things.
Second, Jaya and Armando were the victims of pranks twenty four seven.
Third, everyone else was increasingly taking part in making everything awkward for Kat and Brad. Jaya and I kind of let slip the events of that one day, and in the month Kat had taken off while she nursed her baby boy, we had all decided that if Brad liked Kat, we would definitely try to find out.
“Well—” Jaya began just as someone knocked on the door.
“Come in?” I said, unsure of what else to say. No one’s knocked on our before.
Neal came in quickly, the same smile on his face. He closed the door quickly and sat down in front of my desk.
“That was—“
“Crazy? Yeah, I know.”
“I don’t!” I said, feeling out of the loop.
And that’s how I got stuck in a twenty minute discussion on how Neal and Jaya had managed to get Brad to spill his coffee on Kat.
“You guys are terrible!” I said, shaking my head at them.
“It was your idea!” They both whisper shouted at the same time.
“Yeah, but I didn’t expect you guys to actually execute the idea!” I said.
“Can we not argue on this? I think we all silently agreed to this whole thing.” Jaya said.
“She’s right. Well, I need to go. I don’t need to be victimized anymore.” He said, specifically looking at me with a twinkle in his eye.
“I can victimize right now.” Jaya offered.
“We’re good.” I deadpanned.
“Yeah, we’re good Reina. See you tonight, Reina?” Neal asked as he walked to the door.
“Yeah.” I said, smiling at him. With that he walked out of the office, leaving me to deal with Jaya alone.
“So….”
