It was decided that I'd go on night patrol with Ethan and Jaden.
They led me to a back door and we walked out. it was much creepier at night.
We heard a low growling coming from the field in front of us. That's when a zombie jumped out and ran toward us. Ethan swung his baseball bat. It made a sickening crack as it made contact with the zombie's head.
I looked around nervously. That's when I saw a glint of silver in the bushes. I looked down into the bushes and saw a bone.
I squealed and then I saw the silver. It was a silver key. I picked it up and showed it to Ethan and Jaden. I stuffed it in my pocket and we continued to walk around.
We made it to the main entrance and a huge group of zombies had gathered in front of it. We quickly and quietly moved towards the front door and snuck in. we peeked out the window and to our luck, none of them had spotted us. We walked back to everyone else and I pulled the key out of my pocket.
I walked over to Jay and handed him the key.
"Where did you find this?" He asked.
"I found it in the back in one of the bushes," I answered.
"It could be something useful. There are a lot of locked rooms in this building and the others so who knows" Jay said.
"Okay, I think when we go on patrol next we should try some of the locked rooms. Maybe I could search for a while... gives me something to do you know?" I said.
"Well, take someone with you" He replied. I nodded.
"Who wants to go with Kylie to check out rooms?" Jay asked.
"I'll go," Someone on the other side of the room said. I looked towards the voice and saw a boy probably a little older than me, standing in the corner. He had red hair and Brown eyes. He looked pretty tall and he was wearing a Black, red, and white sweatshirt with ripped jeans.
"Okay anyone else?" Jay asked. No one said a word. I guess everyone else was pretty tired. They all looked exhausted. The boy and I walked out and decided to start upstairs and work our way down.
"So what's the plan?" He asked.
"I just want to see which room this key is for, like Jay said it could lead us to something useful," I said. "By the way what's your name?" I asked.
"Zion," He said. I looked around and saw a door that looked promising. I stuck the key in but the door opened. It must have already been unlocked.
"Was this door already unlocked before?" I asked.
"No, that's weird," Zion said. He pushed the door open and looked inside. It looked like a recording studio or something... we looked around and the entire room was clean. No dust or dirt.
"Someone has been in here..." I said.
"Looks like it but why," He asked.
"Someone could have gone exploring and it could have been unlocked," I said.
"Then why was it locked before" He looked at me.
"Why are you asking me? I just got here, there could be another key someone found though" I said.
"I'll ask Jay," Zion said. We walked out.
Swoosh! something ran behind us. I spun around on my heel. Zion had a Baseball bat and got it ready to use.
Swoosh! I spun around again. And suddenly something flew at me. It looked like a knife or something. Zion jumped and grabbed me and we fell to the ground. He looked around and I looked over to see what it was. Sure enough, it was a knife.
"Thanks, that was close," I said.
"No problem," He said. He stood up and held his hand out. He helped me up and we decided to call it a night. We walked back to the "meeting room" and everyone was buzzing with excitement. They were all surrounding someone.
"Hey, we're back," I said to let people know.
"Hey! This is Lila she just joined us like a few minutes ago" Jay said.
"I'm sorry Kylie but she is taking the extra bed in our room," Summer said.
"Um okay"
"You'll have to stay with Lizzie, Zion, me, and Eugene," Jay said,
"Oh," I said.
"Finally, I won't be the only girl" A girl I didn't notice till now because she was so quiet, just like Zion.
"Hey, we aren't that bad" Zion laughed.
"Tell me that when you guys stop having pillow fights, midnights snacks, and truth or dare games," The girl said. "I'm Lizzie by the way," She said.
"Hey I'm Kylie," I said. She smiled.
"I'm gonna go get something to eat. Who's with me??" She asked.
Me, Zion, Ethan, and Summer raised our hands. We headed to a room that had a bunch of boxes in it.
"Eventually we are going to run out of food in the world," Zion said.
"Well, I know a farmer who still has a lot of seeds and stuff, we'll steal from him if he either gets infected or doesn't want to share," Lizzie said.
That night
"Okay, Kylie truth or dare?" Jay asked. I groaned. I've always hated this game.
"Dare I guess," I said.
"I dare you too....hug Zion" Jay said. Boys. I rolled my eyes. Too bad we can't do anything crazy for a dare. The world is not safe to go and do anything you want anymore.
"Do I have to?" I asked.
"A dares a dare," Jay said.
"Fine," I said. I gave Zion a quick hug and then looked awkwardly out the window.
"Lizzie truth or dare?" Jay asked.
"Truth," she said.
"What's your favorite thing to do?" Jay asked.
"Read," she said. "Kylie, what's yours?" She looked at me.
"Listen to music" I answered. "I was in the making of becoming a singer... my songs were going viral then this shit happened and well you know the rest," I said. She gave me a look that said "it ruined everything for all of us" I nodded in agreement.
"I'm going to bed. Keep it down" I said. Everyone said goodnight and I climbed into my bed. I fell asleep really fast and had a dream about what I'd probably be doing in my music career if everything was still normal.
