Andres Perida was a boy of many things. He loved to draw, watch anime, and skate. However he always lived in the shadows of his older brother, Gastón Perida. Gastón was perfect, he had amazing grades, was athletic and got all the girls, but it didn't really bother Andres. Andres liked to keep to himself, he loved spending time in his room alone, drawing. He loved creating characters and designing them to be everything he couldn't be.
"Andres hurry up, you're going to be late for school," Gastón hollered. "I'm coming," Andres said running down the stairs. "Are you ready for your first day of middle school?" Gastón asked, throwing a banana at Andres. "I guess, are you ready for high school?" Andres questioned. "Please, high school is going to be so easy. I'm not worried a single bit. Plus I have Matteo, we're going to make our mark on Blake South College." Gastón proclaimed, proudly.
Andres sniggered as he threw the banana peel at Gastón. "Well if you'll excuse me, I have to get to school." Andres said walking out the door, grabbing his skateboard. "Have fun." Gastón laughed.
Andres loved skating to school. It was the best part of his. The breeze picked up as he skated over the sidewalk and onto the road. His new school, Blake South Intermediate College was almost 10 minutes from his house. He locked his skateboard and walked into the school. This was a new start for Andres, new friends, new school, new everything. He sighed as he walked into the school, ignoring a brunette heading straight towards him. She looked nervous as she carried textbooks in her arms fidgeting with her headphones. "Ay, cuidado." Andres said as she bumped into him dropping her books. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." she said quickly, picking up her books.
Andres's jaw dropped. She was beautiful. Her wavy hair flowed from her ponytail and her eyes were a beautiful chocolate brown color and she had an accent. "It's alright, I do the same," Andres chuckled, helping her up. He couldn't help but notice what song she was listening to, "You, you like Shawn Mendes?". Chiara looked at her phone and blushed while muttering. "Oh well you know my playlist was on shuffle, I don't really like mainstream pop." "No, no it's fine I like Shawn Mendes's music." Andres laughed. Chiara's face beamed, "Yeah I really like his music too."
"Oye, I never caught your name." Andres asked. "Chiara, Chiara Balsano." She laughed putting out her hand for Andres to shake. "Andres, Andres Perida." he said shaking her hand. "Wow I didn't know Matteo had a sister, he never mentions you." "You know my brother?" Chiara asked. "I'm Gastón's younger brother, of course I know Matteo." Andres sniggered. "Who's Gastón?" Chiara asked, curious. "Matteo's best friend?" Andres said uncertainly "Don't you ever talk to him?".
"Oh, well I just moved here from Italy. My parents are actually divorced so I haven't seen Matteo in over a year ever since him and my dad moved to Buenos Aires." Chiara glumly told him. "Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't know." Andres muttered, a bit guilty. "No, no it's ok, I don't really mind telling people." Chiara smiled. "But anyways what classes do you have?" "Oh, here." Andres said, passing her his schedule as she gave him hers. "Oh look, we have the same classes." Chiara chuckled. "Wow, that's such a coincidence." Andres added. Chiara turned to him and asked, "Amigos?". Andres smirked as he said, "Mejores Amigos."
Andres felt an instant connection with Chiara. Every moment they spent together, he felt like he could fly. He could be himself around her which is something he never did with anyone other than his family. She laughed at his sarcasm, he helped her build up confidence while speaking Spanish. They were each other's missing pieces. Chiara was the one for Andres.
