Seriously? River? Out of all those people, why him?

I turn my gaze to River, who doesn't look as ecstatic to be training me either. He walks away from the line and over to us. I want to say the feelings mutual but that doesn't seem appropriate considering where and who I'm with. Maybe I'll say it later.

Argus raises a hand and gestures for the rest of the trainers to leave. Milo shoots me a thumbs up and a smile before leaving. I feel more nervous now that he's gone. He was the person I've talked to the most here. I was certainly not comfortable talking to beings 100 times more powerful than me and River was definitely someone who I would not get along with.

"River is the best trainer here," Argus beams, the pride evident in his voice. River doesn't seem as nervous as me. Which makes sense since I am new to all of this but he oddly seemed more relaxed than the other trainers. Perhaps he's just spent more time with them.

Argus gestures to me, "This is Aurora-"

"Actually we've met before," River interrupts. There's a mischievous glint dancing around in his eyes, it's been there since the first time I've seen him.

Oh god, I hope he doesn't say anything bad about me. It wouldn't fair since he knows literally nothing about me. I want to warn him that I'll beat his ass with my newly discovered powers if he tries anything.

"Really?" Argus asks.

"Oh yeah," he smirks, "she made quite a first impression."

I glare back, "as did you."

"A good one I hope," Argus says.

"Definitely," His smug smile only gets bigger, "Oh um what was it you called me?"

He looks over at me and pretends to think.

"Oh I remember, you said that I was gru-"

I quickly cut him off, "Great! I said you were great!" I smile big and hope my glare burns a hole in his face.

Panic is probably written all over my face, while his is relaxed and smug. He's enjoying this. He's fucking enjoying this.

He doesn't say or do anything else besides return a fake smile.

"And what was it that you called me?" I say pretending to be deep in thought.

Of course I already knew what he had called me during our encounter. Annoying. Well he hadn't said it but he implied it and I hadn't even talked to him yet.

The smile on his face falters.

"An-" I start but he's quick to cut me off.

"Amazing," he says gritting his teeth. "I called you amazing."

I want to laugh at how hard it was for him to even lie about complimenting me. Why did heaven have such an annoying person?

"Well I'm glad you two are already friends!" Argus exclaims.

I'm never going to get used to his voice beaming throughout the room.

"River why don't you start helping her right now," he says. River nods in compliance.

Then Argus shifts his attention to me. "River will help you use your powers. Go with him and I'll see you guys later."

I nod and look for River who's already walking somewhere. I quickly scurry behind him. This has got to be the worst day of my life-after life.

He doesn't say anything the entire time and neither do I. Eventually he leads me out of the building and into another one. There's a bunch other people inside and we pass by all of them. We stop in front of a door and River puts in some kind of code.

The door opens and as expected the room is amazingly decorated and huge like every other place here.

We walk in and I take in my new surroundings. I catch river going through a bag and still doesn't say anything to me.

"Why couldn't anyone else help me?" I ask sighing.

He turns around and crosses his arms. "Wether you like it or not, I'm the best trainer here. So neither of us really have a choice Alex"

Did he seriously just call me Alex?

"My names Aurora," I correct him.

He shrugs, "Same thing."

I scoff. He was really starting get on my nerves. "Okay pond."

"What?" He asks confused.

"Pond," I say, "I called you pond."

"It's River."

"Whatever," I shrug, "same thing."

He shakes his head and laughs. "Training you is gonna be a pain in the ass."

"Good. I don't want you to enjoy it."

He sighs and I laugh.

"So where do we start?" I ask eagerly.

Even though I wasn't excited for river to be helping me, I was excited to use my powers and learn more about them.

He walks over to me, grabbing my shoulders and facing me towards the wall on my right. I'm surprised at the sudden contact and even more surprised at how gentle he was.

He takes his hands off me. "Extend your palm out towards the wall." He says and I do.

"Okay now I want to see how much power you can summon." He says from standing behind me. "So try shooting a ball of energy into that wall."

My face twists into confusion. "What? How?"

"Just focus all your thoughts onto controlling your power."

I nod, taking a deep breath in and shut my eyes. I think about what I want to do and try calling to my power. I don't want to embarrass myself in front of River by not being able to use my own powers.

I distract my mind from any other thoughts, solely focusing on my power and me.

A moment later I can feel a hum in my veins, traveling around my body at the speed of light. I direct it all in my hand and feel the power rushing down my arm. Before I know it I go stumbling backwards and hear a loud boom.

I hit Rivers rock hard chest and quickly jerk away, feeling uncomfortable. I'm not gonna lie, River was attractive—insanely attractive. And by the way he holds himself, you'd know he knew it too. If he didn't have a shitty personality I would probably be nervous around him. Thankfully he didn't intimidate me that much with his looks.

River voice brings me back to reality. "You did it."

I look at the burn mark and my hand. I did that. I turn back, facing River.

"That felt amazing," I marveled, thinking of the power, the rush, every single little feeling.

"What's next?" I exclaimed, wanting to do it again.
