It had been a few hours since Draco and Theo had left Hermione in the library. Hermione had lost all track of time though. She was completely lost in the world of books.
'Miss Nott?' a small, squeaky voice called out.
Hermione looked up from her book and saw a small house elf standing in front of her. She had seen a few before at Hogwarts. she wasn't really expecting a house elf in a private home. So the appearance of the little house elf was a bit shocking for Hermione.
The house elf waited a little longer, waiting for a response before she continued with 'Master and Mistress Malfoy request your attendance for dinner.'
'Oh of course. Could you show me the way. I'm afraid I forgot already.' Hermione apologized.
'No problem miss Nott. You can just follow Wina.' The house elf told her.
'Wina? Is that your name?' Hermione asked a bit unsure.
'Yes it is miss Nott. Just say it whenever you need me and I will come to you.' Wina answered.
'Thank you Wina. And please call me Hermione.' Hermione smiled at the small house elf.
'I am ordered to address everyone with the proper tittle.' Wina answered. The house elf was torn between the orders of her masters and the request of Hermione.
Hermione noticed the struggle of the house elf and added 'If it makes you feel better you can call me miss Nott in front of others. But when it's just us you can just say Hermione. Is that better?'
'You are very kind miss- Hermione.' Wina smiled at the young witch. 'now follow me or master will get mad.'
Hermione quickly followed Wina to the dining room. The others were already sitting at their place at the table. Dinner seemed to be a very formal occasion at the Malfoy household. Hermione couldn't help but wonder if it would always be like this.
After dinner Hermione returned to her room. It was not long before someone came knocking on her door. She went to open the door to find her brother standing in front of her.
'What do you want?' Hermione asked him.
'Are you seriously still mad at me?' Theo asked her.
'That's not an answer to my question.' She simply answered.
'Hermione, you are truly unbelievable.' Theo sighed 'Look I'm sorry okay. I know that Potter is important to you. So I should try to be a bit nicer to him. But you can't deny that if he wasn't born, mom and dad wouldn't be dead.'
'Maybe not. But there is no point in thinking about what if's. I will however accept your apology.' Hermione told him 'Now what is the real reason you came to my door?'
'I have a surprise for you. Something I haven't showed you yet during the tour of the house.' Theo told her.
'A surprise? What is it' Hermione asked him.
'For a witch as smart as you, that was a really stupid question. If I told you then it would no longer a surprise, now would it?' Theo smiled at her. Hermione simply lightly slapped him on the arm. But she followed him regardless.
'Okay we're almost there. Now close your eyes.' Theo instructed after a while.
Hermione did as she was told. She felt Theo take her hand and guide her towards where she was supposed to be. 'Okay you can open them now.'
She did and what she saw in front of her was a big painting. Not just any painting. It was a painting of their parents. And because it was a magical painting her parents were able to wave to her. And even better they could talk to her.
'Mom? Dad?' Hermione asked. Tears were already forming in her eyes.
'Hello my darling. You can't believe how happy I am to see you.' Her mother smiled at her. Her voice was the most beautiful sound Hermione had ever heard.
'Little princess, look at you. You look just like your mother did when she was eleven.' The voice of her father now filled her ears.
'Do I?' Hermione asked. Tears now freely flowing down her cheeks.
'it's as if I'm looking in a mirror. Well if that mirror would allow me to look back in time.' Isabella Nott agreed. 'Now tell us. What Hogwarts are you in'
Hermione tried to answer but she was to emotional to be able to form words. So Theo answered for her. 'She is a Slytherin just like every Nott before us has been.' He sounded proud.
'That's wonderful! Have you made friends yet?' Isabella asked her.
Hermione nodded her head. She took a deep breath and calmed down enough to reply 'Tracy Davis and Daphne Greengrass are my friends.' Hermione decided not to mention Harry and Ron right now. She was pretty sure they would react similar to Theo when he first heard about her friendship with them. She didn't want to ruin this moment with them.
'Ah yes. Great choice princess. Very respectable families.' Her father, Theodore Nott senior, replied. 'What about your lessons? Are you enjoying them?'
'I like them all. Except maybe flying.' Hermione answered.
'She is being humble. She is the top of her class in every class except flying and herbology.' Theo quickly added.
'Oh darling we're so proud of you.' Isabella beamed at her.
'Theodore, you remember what I told you when your sister was born?' Theodore senior said.
'That it is my job to always take care of her.' Theo replied.
'So have you?' Theodore senior asked sternly.
'Ever since I found her again I have tried to do so.' Theo answered.
'Good boy. I'm proud of you son.' Their father told him.
'thank you father.' Theo replied. He tried to not show it but he was really touched to receive praise from his father.
Hermione and Theo stayed at the painting for hours just talking to their parents. It was not until Narcissa found them that they left. Well she made them leave. Telling them the painting would still be there the next day and that sleep is very important for growing children. Theo tried to say he was no longer a child but Narcissa was not budging and send him away anyway.
