Chapter 2 | The Arrival

I ran. I had absolutely no idea where this 'Junk N' Stuff' was. I ran as fast I could. Every step I ran I wanted this job more and more, to come home and tell my mom I got the job and to see her face so happy. I started to sweat and ran out of breath, my skirt was flowing in the wind, and my feet started to get sore from my shoes, but that didn't stop me.

I ran by a street of shops, I had a gut feeling it was around here, and oh boy it was. a huge brown sign with the words 'JUNK N' STUFF' which looked rotten and about to fall off, I looked into the store, my nose pressed on the glass. "what a dump!" I muttered to myself.

I opened the door, a little 'ding' sound from a bell, followed by a huge roar from a strange dinosaur to my left, I'd never seen anything quite like it.

I was amazed. I saw lots of stuff I didn't know existed. Lots of instruments, signs, you name it scattered around the shop, the store was extremely crowded with junk.

I gazed around the room in astonishment, until I heard another 'ding sound', which didn't come from the door, but from the backroom behind the counter. I heard laughing.

The curtain opened. There stood was a man, early 30s, shaggy brown hair and a red top with white sleeves. to his left was a girl, who looked the same age as me.
Next to her was the cutest boy i'd ever seen. I blushed a little.... just a little bit. He was a little taller than the girl next to him, he had blonde hair, and also looked the same age as me.

I'd seen them two before, they went to the same school as me, Swellview High. I didn't know there names but had seen them around, we didn't have any classes. We'd just passed each other in the halls a couple times a week.

We all stared at each other, 2 pairs of eyes were on me. The boys all screamed in fear, the girl just looked as me with widened eyes. I'm guessing they didn't know someone was inside the shop. it was quite weird. like they'd never seen another human before. the boy with the blonde hair started to look nervous and awkward, i think he likes me.

"little girl we're closed!" the older man said. "come back tomorrow."

"oh im not here to shop." I said. "I'm here for the job interview, for a part time helper?"

as soon as i said that the boy smiled. he definitely likes me.

"oh gosh, im so sorry!" he apologised. "silly me."

"where is the job interview?" I asked in an anxious voice.

"here, come this way, the man said." all 3 of us followed him into the backroom.

the backroom just looked like the store, but with an weird creepy sort of elevator in the centre. the man pushed the elevator button, we all squeezed inside, it was a tight fit.

The door closed.
It was so awkward for the first few seconds, everyone was silent.

"I'm ray by the way, and this is henry and charlotte.
"Hi!" henry said cheerfully, "i'm henry", he stretched his arm across charlotte as we stood both sides of her, she looked at his arm, in a disgusted way.

I shook his hand awkwardly.

"And I'm Alana, nice to meet you." I smiled.

Charlotte didn't say anything.

"so then, alana, ray said." "sorry for this next part."ray pushed a button inside the elevator.

I didn't get to finish my sentence, as soon as I opened my mouth the elevator came crashing down, i didn't know an elevator could go that fast, it was like a roller coaster. I was going so fast my feet were off the ground. My heart was racing.

I was screaming, I hated every second of it, Ray, Charlotte and Henry just stood there, emotionless, they were probably used to it by now.

Then came a sudden thud, the elevator door opened and made a 'whoosh' sort of sound. What came next changed my life forever.
