I wearily wondered in to the kitchen, finding my mum feeding my younger brother, Archie.

“Hello…” I muttered, nibbling nervously at my bottom lip.

“So you’re finally home. Where have you been?”

“Well I stayed at Harry’s last night which you know, and then I was at the hospital all day.” I saw my mums face turn to complete worry “Don’t worry... it wasn’t for me, it was for Niall. He got attacked by fans and got knocked out.”

“Oh… is he okay?” asked my mum, still feeding Archie.

“Yeah. They’ve just let him go.”

She simply nodded, continuing to feed my brother. No one was speaking and the atmosphere was extremely awkward. I started to shift from leg to leg, waiting for one of us to break the ice. I sighed. My mum was as stubborn as me and I knew she wouldn’t say anything first, so I decided to act like the adult and sort this whole mess out.

“It hurt what you said you know?” I slowly said, watching her reaction carefully.

“And you moving in with Harry doesn’t hurt me?” she spat back.

“I wasn’t the one wishing you weren’t alive though was I!” I replied, quickly defending myself.

Her reaction changed. I knew she felt guilty. I knew she did the minute she said it. But it still didn’t change the fact that she said it.

“I didn’t mean it Melissa. I’m sorry.”

Looking down at the floor I didn’t reply. I didn’t know what to say. Forgive her straight away and act like she hadn’t hurt my feelings when she really had? Or be stubborn and not talk to her, even though she was moving away in less than 2 weeks?

“I’ve been thinking, Melissa… about you moving in with Harry and Louis - “

“I’m moving in with them whether you like it or not Mum,” I sighed, rolling my eyes.

“If you let me actually finish, I was going to say I’m okay with it. Well, I mean it’s going to be hard, but you’re right. You’re 19. I can’t control your life no more Melissa. You were going to leave sooner or later and I guess the time is now.”

Looking up at my mum, tears started to fill my eyes. I was beyond relieved she was finally accepting the idea. It would just make everything a hundred times easier. My mum walked over to me and embraced me in to a hug. The feeling was comforting and after the pass few days, a hug from my mum was exactly what I needed.

“Thank you mummy,” I whispered, tightening the warming hug. “So how long is it until you go?” I wondered, pulling myself from her hold.

“2 weeks today. Want to see the house?”

“Sure,” I replied.

We wandered over to the laptop and she clicked open the website. It was a beautiful house. Big, with a large garden. Plenty of space for Archie to play in. She clicked on the pictures showing the interior of the house. The house had 3 large bedrooms, 2 with en suites. 2 bathrooms, a dining room and a very modern kitchen and front room. Although the inside of the house was very modern, the outside of it had a very old Victorian look to it.

“You’ll have your own bedroom for when you visit… just not the one with the en suites,” she giggled, half nudging me in the ribs.

“Hahaha, fair enough!” I looked at her as she was scrolling through the pictures. I was going to miss her so much. Not seeing her everyday. It was going to be difficult. But I couldn’t leave, I just couldn’t. “I’m going to miss you mum.”

She looked at me, eyes becoming watery. “I’ll miss you to Melissa, I’ll miss you too”

*2 weeks later*

Today was moving day. For both me and my mum. She was moving to Oxfordshire, whilst I was moving in with Harry and Lou. I’m not going to lie, I was scared. Really scared. Sure, I’d stayed at Harry and Lou’s a gazillion times before, but to be living with them? I’ve always, no matter what, lived with my mum. And knowing I was only going to see her every few weeks broke my heart.  Harry and Lou had come round to help pick up my boxes of belongings to move in to theirs.

“Jesus Christ Melissa, how much stuff do you own?!” cried Louis.

“Hahaha! This is only half of it. The other half has either been thrown away or my mums putting it in storage!” I laughed, passing him the last of my boxes.

I looked over to my mum who had just placed the last box in the hired van and was now placing Archie in his car seat. Walking over to them, a lump began to form in my throat. Saying goodbye was going to be so hard. As I approached them both, I instantly wrapped myself around my mum, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to hug her again for a few weeks.

“I’m going to miss you so much, Mummy.” I began to cry on her shoulder, unable to contain my emotions.

“I’m going to miss you to Darling. But you’re a big girl now. It was going to happen sooner or later. Plus, you’re coming to see me in 2 weeks. It will go quickly, trust me!” She parted us from the hug and dried my eyes of tears. She gently kissed me on the forehead and let go of her grip on me. I leaned in to the car giving Archie a big sisterly kiss and hug before letting them go. As she started to drive away, my mum was waving out the window, and when she was finally out of sight, I made my way back to Harry and Louis. Tears reforming in my eyes.

“It will be okay, Mill. You’ll be seeing her soon… and until then… well I guess you just gotta put up with me and Lou!” Harry laughed, winking at me and pulling me in to his warm chest.

“I know, it’s just hard. I’m going to really miss her,” I sniffed, drying my eyes with the sleeve of my cardigan.

“I know Mill, I know. Now, lets get this stuff back to our place, and we’ll go get some pizza and start unpacking okay?”

Pizza. That sounded like a class A plan. So that’s what we did. We went back to the flat, unpacked, ate pizza and did absolutely nothing for the rest of the day.
