I knocked three times then made my way inside Dan's room, not bothering to check if anyone is inside. I made a beeline on his bed and jumped over it, lying down comfortably. I saw him sitting at his study table, watching me with amusement.
"Hello, Elle. Nice of you to drop by at..." He glanced at his study clock. "Eleven in the evening."
I groaned as I laid spread eagled on the bed. "I couldn't sleep."
"A young lady in an eighteen year old man's room in the middle of the night, the elders would be furious." He mockingly announced as he stood up, gesturing for me to move to the side.
"I will be turning eighteen in two weeks if you must know, kind sir." I said in my most British accent. "And you, old man, will be nineteen in two months."
"And I thought you're already losing the accent." He commented, grabbing the pillow I was hugging.
"You don't like my British accent?" I asked, offended. My accent is good. Then a thought came to me. "Do you like me calling you Danny?"
"Of course." He said without hesitation. "Why you ask?"
"Mattie doesn't sound so good." I scrunched my nose, remembering Sophie's nickname. "I thought I was forcing Danny on you."
He scoffed in disbelief at my statement. "I like it if YOU call me Danny. If anyone else, I'm not so sure." Crossing his arms around his head, he glanced at me. "Danny is yours." He said it with nonchalance, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Still, I focused on my mission. Smiling sweetly, I turned to him and prepared my puppy dog eyes to make its appearance. "Sooo...."
"I'm not going to discuss it with you without Matt's permission and approval." He rolled his eyes at my attempt. "And don't bother with the puppy dog eyes."
"Answer one question though and I'll behave. Well, be more tolerable at least."
He raised his brow, waiting.
"Is Noah dangerous?"
Something gleamed in his eyes but it was gone before I could comment. "No. Not to you."
I nodded then turned to face the ceiling. We were quiet for a few moments, lying beside each other comfortably.
"When would you tell me then?"
"When we make sure you're safe. He did ask Leo to hurt you." His jaw clenched, remembering my injuries.
"What exactly are you doing do make sure I'm safe?" I asked skeptically, solidifying my hypothesis that he's running some sort of mafia gang in school with my brother. "Does it have anything to do on why 'Leo and friends' suddenly took a leave of absence from school?"
"Hmmm."
I took one of his pillows and slammed it on his head. He caught it fast and just laughed. "Matt had more to do in it than me."
"I could handle 'Leo and friends'." I grinned proudly. "If you've seen my kick, we won't even be having this conversation."
"I have no doubt in your strength, Elle, but I do doubt one thing tonight." He turned to the side, resting his head on his hand as he regarded me with a mischievous smirk. "Are you here to give me hints for your birthday present?"
"Do I need to give you hints for that?"
"Well, this birthday is special. You'll be turning eighteen, a legal adult." Dan smirked, a playful glint present in his eyes. "Next thing I know, you'll be going on dates and getting boyfriends. Do I have to share you with other guys, Elle? Do I have to compete for your attention?"
