*TW shooting
Amelia and I had been dating for 6 months now. We moved in together in her last week, not that that changed much seen as we slept over almost every day since we started dating and even before that we slept over a lot. We told some of our friends in the earlier months but not too much people, we wanted to keep it to ourselves for some time. By this time almost everyone at the hospital knew about me and Amelia. We didn't mind everyone knowing now, it didn't affect our work and the staring and gossiping has stopped.
Amelia had the day off but I had to go to the hospital and work. Amelia was going to the mall to look for some cute items to put in our place and to get something special for our anniversary. I had my gift already so I was good.
I woke up and when I turned around I felt an empty space next to me where Amelia had been laying all night. I opened my eyes and looked around the bedroom to see if I saw her somewhere but she wasn't here. I sat up in the bed and took my rope when I heard a lot of noise coming from the kitchen. I walked out of the bedroom to find Amelia in the kitchen trying to make some eggs for us but instead of eggs in the pan they were all over the floor. I looked at Amelia and started laughing to which she looked up at me. she gave me an embarrassed smile and then walked over to me to give me a kiss.
"I wanted to surprise you with breakfast but apparently I am not the best person for the job." Amelia said laughing and hugging me.
"You want to be a surgeon but can't even make some simple eggs. That doesn't sound so logical don't you think." I responded and receiving a gentle fist on my arm.
"Hey that doesn't mean anything. You know I am a good intern and that I am not as bad of a surgeon as I am a cook." She said while walking to the eggs on the floor and cleaning them up.
"I know, I know you are an excellent intern."
We cleaned everything up and I made us some eggs and bacon. After breakfast we got ready, me to go to the hospital and Amelia to go to the mall. We both left at the same time and I dropped Amelia off at the mall on my way to the hospital.
I arrived at the hospital and was put in the pit to take care of incoming trauma. I sutured up some wounds and scrubbed in on an emergent craniotomy with the neuro attending. When I came back to the pit in the afternoon I saw everyone gathering around the TV and a lot of the nurses and doctors were crying. I made my way through the crowd and saw the news and immediately I felt the tears in my eyes right before the panic stared to make his way through my body.
"Ok everybody, you know what to do!" The attending in charge of the pit started yelling. "There has been a shooting at the mall so we need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. We have already a total of 50 people terribly injured and the rest still needs to come so page all the attendings that are on call, this is going to be a long day."
The first thing I did was grab my phone out of my lab coat and calling Amelia. The phone went over but she didn't pick up. I tried again but still nothing. by this time I was full on panicking and my resident noticed something was off with me. she came over to me, grabbed my arm and brought me to an empty on call room. She put me down on the bed and sat next to me and asked what was going on. She knew it had something to do with the shooting but not what exactly. I told her that this morning I dropped Amelia off at the mall where the shooting took place and that I haven't been able to get her on the phone ever since I heard the news which was 30 minutes ago. She told me that her phone could just be on silent or even off and that she would call as soon as she could and that I shouldn't be thinking the worst. I looked at her with tears in my eyes and t that moment I felt like my whole life was falling apart, I can't lose Amelia. My resident pulled me closer and gave me a hug, she then told me to breathe in and out and not think of Amelia for the next couple of hours so that I could focus on helping the victims that were about to begin to arrive any second. I looked at my phone once more to see if I had a message or missed call from Amelia but still nothing. I put my phone away, stood up and told my resident I was ready to go back and help out in the pit. When we arrived in the pit it was overflowing with patients with very severe injuries. I had never seen anything like this before.
Amelia's POV
After Arizona dropped me off at the mall I went inside and directly to the shops that I needed to go to. First I went to a jewelry store to see if they have cute bracelets so I can get matching ones to celebrate our 6 month anniversary. I went to 3 different jewelry stores before I found the perfect ones. They had these cute golden bracelets with a little golden bar in the middle that you could get engraved. I asked the shop owner if she could engrave the date 01/15/2000, the date we officially got together.
After I bought the bracelets I went to go get some ice cream and eat it before heading into an interior shop. I finished my ice cream and made my way to the interior shop. Once I was in the shop I walked to the section where the couches were and looked around. Everything was going well, I hadn't yet bought anything but that's good because otherwise I would have come home with a lot of stuff we don't need. I was making my way out of the store when all of a sudden I heard a really loud noise followed by a lot more of them. I looked around and saw everyone laying on the ground. I was looking around to see if I could see what was going on when I see two guys dressed in all black walking at the end of the hall with guns in their hands. I wanted to go hide and crawled over the floor back in the store I came from. I heard the guys make their way down the hall and moving closer to the store I was hiding in. I looked outside and saw the men at the entrance of the store. The last thing I heard was the sound of gunshots and people screaming in fear and in pain.
