Scene Four: William Henry Harrison High School Cafeteria
Scenes opens with a shot of Rocky sitting at a round table in the cafeteria by herself. She is writing peacefully in a journal, looking rather at peace sitting by herself. She has a school lunch tray cast off to the side, almost as if she's forgotten about it. Lexi and Jax, fifteen years old, begin to walk over to where Rocky's sitting, both of them carrying lunch boxes. They stand next to where Rocky's sitting.
Lexi
(With a warm smile)
Hey Rocky.
Rocky
(Looking up from her note book, just now noticing that Jax and Lexi are there. She's smiling, but it's more of a polite smile than a warm smile)
Oh hey, Lexi. (Turning her attention to Jax) Hey Jax.
Jax
(Waving slightly)
Hey Rocky, how's it going?
Rocky
Ehh, no complaints. What's going on with you guys?
Lexi
We actually wanted to see if you wanted to sit with us.
Rocky
Oh, you guys and your choir friends?
Jax
Yeah, yeah, we were gonna sit with Kayleigh and Corrine too.
Rocky
Well, as much as I enjoyed the spontaneous Legally Blonde Musical sing along last time I sat with you guys, I actually have some homework I need to get done before next period. Thanks though.
Lexi
Of course, maybe tomorrow then?
Rocky
Uhh, I'm not sure. Am I gonna be treated to another impromptu musical performance tomorrow?
Jax
(Playing along with the joke)
Yeah, tomorrow is actually Newsies day.
Rocky
(Laughing slightly)
Okay well, I'll think about it. I'll see you guys.
Lexi
(At the same time as Jax)
Bye.
Jax
(At the same time as Lexi)
See ya.
The camera follows Jax and Lexi as they walk over to their table. As they walk, they begin to whisper a little to each other.
Jax
I told you she would say no.
Lexi
I still wanted to offer. I feel bad that she's always sitting by herself.
Jax
Well, some people like being alone. She's like Batman.
Camera pans back to Rocky who looks up from writing in her journal. The camera then pans over to Connor who has headphones on and is reading ''The Green Mile" as he sits by himself on the opposite end of the cafeteria. He looks up and makes eye contact with Rocky. Camera pans back to Rocky who cracks a gentle smile and waves slightly to Connor. Camera pans back to Connor who smiles and waves back.
Camera pans to another table in the cafeteria where Lexi and Jax sit down with their friends, Kaileigh, fifteen years old, and Corinne, sixteen years old, all theater kids who very aggressively look like theater kids.
