"Please get rid of that fucking smell.... Please...."

Ranboo bounces his leg and tapes his pencil as he tries to concentrate on his work. Right. He's supposed to be just finishing this equation. It was going to be fine. He blinks as he reads the question, but the words don't even form in his brain. It was useless for him to try to complete his work, but he still tries it again and again.

What was that fucking smell?

It's not that it was bad—no, it was pleasant enough but the way that it festered in his stomach and made his skin itch. It was so strong, it was like all that Ranboo could concentrate on was the aroma of vanilla stemming somewhere in the room.

He drops his pencil on his desk for a moment as his eyes lift from his paper to the space around him. Was the smell coming from someone's perfume? No, probably not. It was too heavy and consistent. Vanilla perfume is supposed to be soft and gentle. Well, that's how his mum's vanilla perfume is, so that's how it's supposed to be, right?

Putting his thoughts aside, he thinks of another vanilla-scented thing. Was it coming from a window or an open door? No, all the windows were always shut and the door was closed.

What about a candle?

Ranboo's glances to every open place he can see before he finally spots what is causing him so much distress. It sat on his teacher's desk in front of him the entire time he searched. Just a simple block of wax with a wick; it shouldn't bother him. So, why was it? He didn't know. Maybe the smell was just unpleasant and he wanted it gone. Or maybe it wasn't the smell, but was there a possibility that his stomach hurt or he had a headache that was causing him torment instead?

Ranboo rises from his desk and for just a second all eyes are on him, but it was just for a second, and every student turns back to their papers again almost immediately after. Slowly he makes his way to the front desk and his teacher looks glances up at him.

"Uh. If it's not too much trouble, Mx." Ranboo turns away as they attempt to maintain eye contact with him, shifting his weight as they do. "Could you please let out your candle and could I be excused to go to the restroom?"

His professor looks from him to the candle before speaking, "It's no problem, and yes, you may be excused."

Ranboo almost runs out of the room and as soon as the door shuts behind him, the itch in his skin starts to fade and he takes a deep breath. Sure, the smell of a high school hallway wasn't pleasant, but it was better than that vanilla. To him, at least.
