Tubbo's eyebrows confusingly furrowed as Tommy staggered to his knees. The other boy gripped an arrow that struck through his skin, pushing past the dirty cloth of his shirt and producing warm crimson liquid to drip from the wound, staining white to red with blood. He blinked his eyes rapidly and opened his mouth slightly, although shutting it soon after, leaving the action futile. A look of shock held on his face as the life started to drain from his eyes.
The war around the boys seemed to stop as everyone sucked in a breath, Tommy fell to the ground yet no-one moved, they all watched to see if he would get back up. "T-Tommy?" Tubbo called out shakingly as he stepped towards the other from the sidelines of the fighting, "Why are you laying on the floor?"
He had been told to stay away from the war, Tommy taking him to scout the area earlier but the duo suddenly being caught in the crossfire around their home when the older ordered his younger brother to hide as he fought with their enemy. Tubbo had heard of the man who ruled the other side of the war, an angry person who only held hatred and anger in his heart, when he was told of this he had nightmares of the monster that despised him. He haunted his dreams and made him shake at the thought.
Tubbo wondered why his brother suddenly decided to lay down, falling to his knees on the dirty ground layered with rocks and left behind arrows, especially with someone that cruel wanting to hurt them just around the corner. So Tubbo did what he thought was right and ignored what Tommy said earlier, moving from his hiding spot to ask him why he was sitting down instead of holding his crowsbow and sword like he was only minutes before.
Tubbo was young still, only seven, he didn't yet understand the concept of death, his older brothers tried to shield him from the fighting and yelling the best they could even though it was one of the main points in all their lives. They didn't want him to have to deal with the trauma they were forced to, he was just an innocent child, he didn't deserve it.
"Tom?" Tubbo called again, sitting on his knees as he grabbed the sleeve of Tommy's bloodstained shirt, who didn't answer him. The boy hugged his brother's arm, small enough to completely wrap his arms around Tommy's arm compared to the other as he was grown and older, "Are you okay?"
"Why aren't you answering me Tommy?" Tubbo asked again grabbing his cold hand, and yet Tommy didn't respond still, a frown formed on the young boy's face as he continued to ask, repeating the words over and over. Yet no answers came, his brother only laid still with the silent air around the two.
"Kid..." An unfamiliar voice came from a tall man that seemed to appear next to him. Large horns grew from the sides of his head, an old grey suit dawning his lengthy form .
"Wh-Who are you?" Tears formed in Tubbo's eyes as he grabbed ahold of Tommy tighter, wrapping his arms around the boy's limp hand. He was warned to not speak to anyone outside of his family and in all truth he was afraid to even try.
"Listen." The man sighed, "Your brother..." He paused as he looked down, regret in his eyes, "He is very tired and he is going to be sleeping for a while, okay?" Tubbo hesitantly nodded, glancing at Tommy before looking back at the other.
"How about you come with me, I can introduce you to some of my friends and we can find you a way home." The man smiled, a smile filled with sadness and greif, but he smiled to entertain Tubbo and the boy didn't notice the negative feelings behind it as the taller held out his hand to the younger.
"O-Okay." Tubbo took the other's hand, he felt safer now, there was no more yelling from angry soldiers in the field and he felt calm with the elder, he was reminded of his brothers and father by the warmth from him, "Is Tommy gonna be okay?"
"I'm sure he will." Suddenly Tubbo was lifted to the shoulders of the man, grabbing onto the horns on the side of his head and giggling as they walked away, down a new path Tubbo had never seen. He didn't know where he was going but he wanted to see Wilbur and Techno again, his family might be worried about him.
