Jason's POV

It took a lot of guts to ask a girl out. A lot. But that's what I did.

"Hey, Piper," I said as we sat down together for lunch; she greeted me back.

"Hey, Jason."

"Um, so I was wondering. Do you wanna go to the park with me tomorrow after school?" I smiled, but I bet I looked clumsy.

Piper grinned. "Sure! I'll meet you there at six?"

"Great." I walked to third period.

I had a date tomorrow.

* * *

I grabbed my wallet and headed out the door, waving goodbye to my sister, who was tuning her guitar. I combed through my hair and jumped into my car.

Piper lived in a big house like me. Her's was a mile away, and my heart raced as I drove there.

I rang the doorbell; a middle aged woman answered the door. She was holding a broom in her right hand. "What you want?"

"Hi, um, is Piper McLean here?"

"Jason?" Piper came to the door and the woman left.

Okay, so she looked beautiful. Her choppy hair was up in a pony tail; she smiled when she saw me. She never wore makeup, her lips were naturally light pink, and her skin was naturally a bronze color. She was a dark blue dress shirt and shorts with plain converse. She was clutching a black bag.

"You ready?" I asked; my throat was suddenly dry.

"Yeah, let's go."

We hopped into my car, listening to the radio on our way to the park. Piper was twirling her fingers. I'd learned we were both ADHD and had dyslexia. It was a weird coincidence.

The park itself was beautiful. It was hard to find cleaned places like this in a big city like Manhattan. A park was the perfect place to go in late March weather. The flowers were slowly blooming, and the weather wasn't too hot or cold. Piper thought the same thing.

"So..." Piper muttered, leaning towards me a little as we walked.

"So tell me," I asked. "What do your parents do?"

Piper took a deep breath. "They're actors."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Tristan and Aphrodite C

McLean."

My mind was literally blown. "You're the child? I mean, I knew they had a daughter, but I didn't know it was you."

3rd Person

Piper rolled her eyes. "Don't push it, Grace."

"I will push whatever I wanna push," Jason said in a sarcastic tone. Piper raised an eyebrow. "That came out wrong."

"Yeah, it did."

"I apologize."

"Now you're just mocking the Giver."

"So you've watched the Giver?"

"No," Piper said. "I read the book."

"Me too. I love to read."

"Yeah same. It's just kinda hard with the dyslexia though."

"Yeah." Jason kicked a pebble with his right foot.

The sky was getting darker. Piper and Jason headed back to his car, and Jason drove Piper home.

"Thanks, Jason, for the date. I needed it."

"Hey, no problem. I'll see you on Monday right?"

"Right." Piper opened the car door; Jason got out too.

"Piper wait." Jason grabbed Piper's hand, making her turn.

"Jason, wha-"

Then he kissed her. Time stopped as their lips met, and she pulled him closer, wrapping her arms around his neck. Jason had one hand on Piper's neck.

"See you on Monday," Jason stammered.

"You already said that, Jason," Piper teased.

"Oh yeah."
