Lisa
"Are you sure you don't need any help?"
"No thanks, I got it!"
Jennie held the ladder still whilst I carried a box down from the attic, my nose crinkling as I tried to suppress a sneeze from all the dust. "I think this it. You said to bring the one marked 'X-MAS trinkets', right?"
She took the empty box from my arms, offering me her hand as I hopped down the last few steps. "That's right baby."
The festive season's come and gone so quickly this year that I kinda want things to slow down.
Nightfall arrives faster, the weather's gotten so cold, and Daisy is growing bigger with each passing day. I wish I had the ability to pause time during the perfect moments, so I could savor them, like right now on this lazy Sunday afternoon, watching Luca and Jen pluck wonky looking ornaments off the tree, the two of them laughing as they toss them back into the box, ready to be discarded until next year.
"Watch Momma, I can get this one in from here!" Luca's tongue was poked out in concentration as he threw the golden bauble, punching the air excitedly as he scored. "See?"
"I certainly did kid." Jen clapped, her eyes forming little crescent moons as she smiled. "My turn now." I didn't even have to look to know Jen missed her shot from the way Luca was taunting her skills. "Cut me some slack Lu, my wrists aren't as nimble as yours!"
I knew exactly how nimble she could be with her hands, but I chose to keep my hormones at bay by remaining quiet. Instead, I focused on taking the last pieces of down tinsel from the walls, not wanting Jen to see my blush.
"Okay, all done. Go wash your hands buddy, lunch will be ready soon." Once a grumbly Luca left for the bathroom, I felt her pull me back into her arms, chin snuggling into my shoulder.
"What did I do to deserve a back hug Nini?" Her fingers tickled my waist before wriggling up under my sweater and cupping my breasts. "What has gotten into you?" I gasped, playfully smacking her hands away. I turned around to peck her on the lips, unsurprised to have been met with a cheeky smirk. "Are you alright?"
"Never better Lilibug." She caught my lips for another kiss and I couldn't resist looping my hands around her neck and tracing my tongue across her bottom lip.
I thank my lucky stars everyday that things worked out how they did. Waking up beside a woman is everything I wanted, yet everything I tried to deny myself for almost 25 years. I don't want to love an ideal anymore, I want to love a real person, so I'm glad that with Jennie, our life together is 100% transparent and true.
Well... almost everything.
It'd been roughly 2 months since a new couple moved in next door and it's been...tense. (For reasons besides the fact they were openly homophobic).
Sehun and Jennie know one another somehow, yet she still insists that it was all in the past and therefore fails to acknowledge the elephant in the room whenever we see them.
Jen and I have swore not to keep secrets from one another since we became a proper couple. Ever since what happened with Jaehyun, she knows how much I value trust in a relationship. With where we're at now, I consider her co-parent to my children, yet she won't open up to me about this and it's eating me up inside.
The rift between out two household's led to a lot of awkward front lawn nods and avoiding the other pair in public, simply because the two of them can't settle whatever feud they have going on.
I broke away from our kiss, a little sad that those thoughts were resurfacing, but I chose not to mention it. I don't want to spoil things when Jen is in such a good mood.
